5.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious, But Very Wise, Book
If you ever start taking life -- or yourself -- too seriously, take a deep breath...and sit down with Lindsey Stokes' book. While PLANET IDIOT is a really, really funny book to read, I found it provided so much more "relief" than just a good laugh. It provides perspective. Stokes does a wonderful job of entertaining while she's teaching us all ow to relax a bit...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not funny - she is no Dave Barry
I was very disappointed in this book. I could barely finish reading it. As a big Dave Barry fan, I thought this would be up my alley. She seems to copy Barry's style but the book just is not very funny.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Hilarious, But Very Wise, Book, March 12, 2001

If you ever start taking life -- or yourself -- too seriously, take a deep breath...and sit down with Lindsey Stokes' book. While PLANET IDIOT is a really, really funny book to read, I found it provided so much more "relief" than just a good laugh. It provides perspective. Stokes does a wonderful job of entertaining while she's teaching us all ow to relax a bit in our frantic lives. Reading this book is like spending an afternoon with a good friend, sharing frustrations, finding common ground and hilarity in those frustrations, and coming away with new energy for facing them with greater relaxation and equanimity.

For those of us who are weary of "self-help" books filled with sanctimonious proselytizing and pyscho-babble, read this book. It will give you a good, healthy slap in the face, but deliver it with a smile and a side-splitting punchline. I hope she keeps writing more books. I know I'll need them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Where does she get this stuff???, March 23, 2001

Planet Idiot confirms through the scientific method (i.e., Lindsey Stokes' hysterical storytelling) what we've known all along: the world has more idiots than Dick Cheney has heart murmurs. I seldom laugh when reading a book but Lindsey kept hitting nail after nail on the head. I may never make my bed again (see page 137).

5.0 out of 5 stars Take a break from life!, March 28, 2001

What a kick! This book is a hilarious page turner. Opened it on a Saturday afternoon and didn't put it down until I finished. Unfortunately, a few of the examples hit way to close to home! I loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funny, funny stuff!, May 8, 2001

This review is from: Planet Idiot: A Survival Guide (Hardcover)
I loved this book. It's a book that makes you laugh out loud about the crazy things she is describing about people...and then realize that you are one of the people she is describing! I really laughed a lot. And, it made me think twice about a few things I do everyday that just don't make any sense. My fiance enjoyed the book as much as I did, so it is definitely a book for both sexes. Enjoy!

This isn't like other humor books--it's funny, uplifting, and leaves you feeling giddy! The book actually SAYS something! I laughed harder than I can remember laughing at anything--but I also thought it was full of great advice! I've been quoting from it like crazy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, Insightful...and so real, March 6, 2001
By
This review is from: Planet Idiot: A Survival Guide (Hardcover)
This book knocked the wind out of me--and made me realize some of the ways in which even I sometimes lose perspective on life and act like a total "idiot." I saw myself, I saw my family and my friends in the hilarious references Stokes makes to the decisions we make every day that are just really stupid. In addition to making me laugh at myself and realize that I often take myself too seriously, the book is incredibly fun to read. You won't just laugh--you will laugh hard. And you will start noticing a lot of "idiots" around you...in meetings, at soccer practice, in carpool. What inspired writing and thinking! The fact that is a blast to read is just frosting on the cake.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun & Insightful Reading, May 21, 2001

Planet Idiot by Lindsey Stokes was a breath of fresh air in literary humor. It provided a great deal of thought-provoking insight as well as plenty of laughs. It took my mind off all my troubles and gave me a new way to look (and laugh) at my problems. Erma Bombeck has nothing on Lindsey Stokes!!!

I picked up Planet Idiot after hearing Lindsey Stokes on a D. C. television interview show recently. What a Blast!! She turns the everyday maddening events into hilarious - yet thoughtful --encounters with a finesse that makes life worth living. A hearty five stars, and let's hope there are more books from her in the future!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Laughed so hard I cried, March 11, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Planet Idiot: A Survival Guide (Hardcover)
I got a hold of Planet Idiot from a friend, who got it from a friend. This book is so true and so funny that people are telling each other about it and passing it around like it was a fine bottle of wine to share with friends. We DO live on Planet Idiot and this author captures our foibles in a way that is refreshing and funny and outlandish! Lindsey Stokes is my favorite humorist! I hope she has more books in her repertoire.

5.0 out of 5 stars I literally laughed till I cried, November 13, 2004
By
This review is from: Planet Idiot: A Survival Guide (Hardcover)
I spotted this book in my wife's beachbag while on vacation in Hawaii last week. Bored with the political non-fiction I was reading I picked up Planet Idiot and randomly read the chapter on buying art. What a riot! I read the whole book that afternoon and was laughing so hard I was in tears. At times I had to stop reading because my eyes were watering so much from laughter. Not only is this book funny but it makes a point that I think we should all follow. Don't take ourselves too seriously. I would recommend this book to anyone. Even the idiots.
