I decided to give this detergent a whirl after reading all the positive reviews. I'm so glad I did! I feel good about using a detergent that is biodegradable and free of dyes and perfumes. I was afraid I wouldn't like the fact that it doesn't leave my clothes smelling fresh, but my clothes managed to smell clean, just not "perfumed". I figure I can always add tea tree oil or some other kind of natural scent to my load of laundry if I want it to smell like something. I like that it's not blue or purple or green or some odd color, like the store brands. My local grocery stores and health food stores don't sell this, so I did the subscribe and save thing here on Amazon. The price is comparable to buying detergent in the store. I only wish Planet would make an ultra-concentrated formula like Seventh Generation does so they could cut down on packaging and it would cut down on storage space on my shelves.
Update: 3-9-09 I have been using this detergent for a few months now, and I still love it. I find that after using Planet, I can't go back to soap with perfume in it, or even fabric softener or scented dryer sheets. The perfume gives me a headache and is very unpleasant. I used to love the smell of clean laundry, funny to find out that it wasn't clean at all, that the scent was leftover residue from the soap. Yuk! Go Planet, your products are awesome! Update 1-14-10 I am so disappointed to report a "stink" problem with this detergent. All my clothes smell like sweat! I had been using this detergent consistently for 9 months without any problems, but all of a sudden it's like nothing gets clean in any load, hot or cold. I had to use vinegar and ammonia to get the smells out. I tried using more detergent and then less detergent to see if maybe I had a build-up problem. I have never had this happen with any detergent I've ever used. I loved this for the first 9-10 months, but now I'm switching to something else for awhile. I can't stand walking around smelling like my clothes aren't clean.

Eco and Skin Friendly Laundrey Detergent,
By Megan "Bad at Nicknames" (California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Planet Ultra Liquid Laundry Detergent, 100 Fluid-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 4) (Health and Beauty)
Planet products are great for the enviroment and they actually work. I know alot of people who shy away from eco friendly products because they are afraid they won't work as well, but this actually does. It is gentle enough for your more delicate laundrey will but will still clean the hardcore dirt; I've used it successfully on dog beds and clothes soiled from heavy yardwork. Another thing that is great about this is it is totally safe for people with sensitive skin. I have skin allergies and occasional eczema (I can't use alot of harsher detergents), but this has never bothered my skin and is totally fragrence free.

After trying many, many additive-free detergents, Planet is by far the best. Not only is it TRULY free and clear unlike other brands (like Dreft, All Free Clear, Seventh Generation Free and Clear, Seventh Generation Baby, etc.), but it cleans really well unlike Charlies and Allens. This detergent is perfectly safe to use on cloth diapers. It will not build up (no more stripping!) and it will get rid of the toughest stains. I highly recommend it!

Planet Ultra contains 6.1 ppm 1,4 dioxane. This is a synthetic petrochemical carcinogen. Re: Organic Comsumers Association (OCA) and Green Patriot Working Group (GPWG).

BEST for cloth diapers,

Because this is free of dyes, phosphates, softeners and enzymes it is great choice for cloth diapers. It really cleans!!! we use it for all laundry, so that there is never any fabric softener in our washer (if you wash diapers, you CAN't use softeners in your washer at all, because they will coat the walls and then get on the diapers, waterproofing them and reducing absorbancy). I love planet!

I switched to using Planet detergent about 7 months ago. I switched to cloth diapers and it was recommended by the company I purchased the diapers from. My local supermarket carried it, so I figured I would try it. I was really impressed by how well it cleaned all my laundry, not just the diapers, and it was really great for both my husband and my son's sensitive skin. My son had rashes since birth and I used All free and clear, but once I started using Planet it finally cleared up completely (he was nine months old). My supermarket stopped carrying Planet a few weeks ago, so I tried to use Purex free and clear, and Arm and Hammer Essentials instead....and there is just no comparison. My clothes smell annoying, my diapers are stinky, and my son has a nasty rash. I was so excited to get my shipment of Planet in today-never thought I would get excited over laundry detergent! It's a great price with the automatic delivery too, and it arrived in just three days.

While on my desperate search for the right detergent to was my cloth diapers in, someone suggested Planet. I bought it, and haven't looked back since. It rinses clean no matter how much or little you use, and since my son and I have sensitive skin we have started using it for our regular washes as well.
I would definately recommend this detergent to anyone, and have!

I love the detergent and have no complaints about it.
However, there appears to be something awry with the packaging. Two of my four jugs leaked in transit, and when I opened the first jug, it leaked as I was pouring the soap into the lid. It seems that whatever design Planet uses for their jugs is less than sufficient. I was also surprised to see that the box the bottles were shipped in was minimally padded, contrary to the usually excellent packing job that Amazon does with its products.

Happy to find an unscented biodegradable laundry product that works,

It is hard to find a laundry detergent that is biodegradable, doesn't have any added scents, and actually works. I have tried many detergents. I am allergic to scents, so had to pass up quite a few. Most of the products I try don't really clean well. I am happy with Planet.

I'm pretty sure everyone thinks we're crazy for ordering laundry detergent online, but we love Planet degergent and I've never been able to find anyone who carries it locally (in several areas that we've lived). We originally started buying it to wash cloth diapers (BumGenius and various other prefolds/covers/all-in-ones) and it did a fantastic job. We never had any problems with odor, build-up, loss of absorbancy, etc. We started using it on all our laundry and it's great! Gets the clothes clean and does not leave a purfumed scent (which some people will hate because they believe their clothes need to "smell clean" - aka, heavily purfumed, like detergent). In my mind, if the clothes smell like ANYTHING, they're not clean. If it smells like detergent, then there's still detergent in them. My husband and son have issues with eczema and since using this detergent to wash all of our clothes, their skin issues have almost completely cleared up. So, while it may be weird to buy your detergent online, I'll happily keep my subscription for a 4 pack every 6 months. Bonus - no more hauling heavy bottles of detergent home from the store - they show up at my doorstep! And, the price really is pretty comparable to most middle to higher end detergents if you get the subscription price.
