4.0 out of 5 stars Enter Larson McCade, July 14, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Planet Masters (Hardcover)
This book is not part of the "trilogy" featuring Rikard Braeth, but it's a great book anyways. Larson McCade, the center of this story, journeys to "Seltique" seeking an artifact called the Book of Aradka (mentioned in Crown of the Serpent). Unfortunately Seltique society discourages the casual traveler, and is rather blunt about them not being welcome. Larson however is undaunted and manages to secure accomodations. As he searches for the Book, he uses a cover story of researching the a pro-galaxy political group known as The Core. Mention of The Core creates highly volatile situations, which makes enemies for McCade as well as some unlikely allies, all of whom unwittingly help him in his research to uncover The Book. Along the way McCade must learn how to fit into the highly structured society of Seltique, in which an individual can raise his status by ritual murder, among other things. The big question here seems to be if McCade will live long enough to put the pieces of his political-archaeological puzzle together. All I can say is I wish Mr. Wold would publish more books like this one and "Jewels of the Dragon"
