4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, if familiar, puzzle blast
The minute you pop Planet Puzzle League into your DS, you'll automatically feel familiar with the game's overall gameplay aspects. If you've played games like Columns or even the original Puzzle League, you'll feel right at home here. 3.0 out of 5 stars gave it away
I found the game to be generally well-designed. Settings can be adjusted for right-hand or left-handed play. As reviewer James F. points out, the game allows for both short-term (2-5 min) and long-term play (30~ min). There are several different modes of play including a daily play option. I liked the music but it can get a little repetitive, especially if you are playing...

The minute you pop Planet Puzzle League into your DS, you'll automatically feel familiar with the game's overall gameplay aspects. If you've played games like Columns or even the original Puzzle League, you'll feel right at home here. Despite it's familiar aspects though, Planet Puzzle League still offers a good amount of fun for your DS. Using the stylus and touch screen allows you to manuver your blocks around to set up chain reactions, and actually gets old after a while thanks to the fact that there are no real rewards to earn the further you advance in the game. The real meat of Planet Puzzle League lies in the multiplayer and online options, which are second to none. Going head to head against another player is oh so much fun, and the Wi-Fi and online capabilities of the DS shines as you play against other players all over the world works surprisingly well, and when using the DS headset, you can even chat with your opponents. What kills Planet Puzzle League from being something really special is the game's overall gameplay elements, which we've seen before, and seen done better. That being said though, most of Planet Puzzle League is a great blast to play with the real meat and potatoes being found in the multiplayer options of the game, and for that alone it is worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Version of Puzzle League Ever, June 16, 2007

This is the DS version of the old Tetris Attack, Pokemon Puzzle Leagues and Puzzle League for the GBA.
You move the stylus to move certain colored blocks to line up vertically or horizontally with 2 blocks of the same color to make them disappear. There are several modes to play.
It has all of the old modes of those classics but adds a few more. There is one mode where you have a split second or so to move blocks to make them disappear.
It looks great and the whole vibe feels like the original Meteos from a few years back.
You can play against your friends online if you have a wireless connection with full chat using the special headphone peripheral using the friends codes.
Overall the game is really awesome and worth buying for your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Planet Puzzle League......, July 26, 2007

Puzzle games have never really been my strong suit. I love to play them but haven't really been all that good at them except for two games. Those being Dr. Mario & Pokemon Puzzle League. Give me those two games and I can stand my ground with just about anyone. To those in the know, Puzzle League started out as Panel de Pon or Tetris Attack(as it's known on these shores) and eventually seen different iterations as Pokemon Puzzle Challenge-Pokemon Puzzle League- and, lastly, as Puzzle League in the Dr. Mario/Puzzle League game for the Gameboy Advance. The game challenged players to flip two tile pairs in a bin left-to-right or right-to-left to form groups of three or more of like colors. In doing so, it would cause them to disappear and make room for more tiles which, in turn, could create combos and rack up your score with additional groupings. If the tiles reach the top of the screen, it's Game Over! While the game itself remains the same, the only difference with this game and its' previous incarnations is how the game is played controlwise(which is by using your stylus or, if you opt the old fashioned way, your D-pad) and the overall feel of the game. Intelligent Systems really went all out on this game and I'm glad they did. After the simpler version of Puzzle League in the Dr. Mario/Puzzle League game on the Gameboy Advance(which I totally beat in a day or so), it's good that they did. Everything is more robust and exciting this time around. It's still addictive after all these years. I just hope Nintendo will make a Dr. Mario puzzle game that's this good and I will be in my own lil 'puzzle heaven'...lol..

I hardly ever recommend a puzzle game unless it is really good and, folks, this game is awesome. I'm addicted all over again.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent except for one thing..., June 4, 2007

If you've ever played Tetris Attack, Panel de pon, Pokemon Puzzle League or Challenge, or just Puzzle League, you've played this game. It's been through a bunch of different logos and characters, but Nintendo has settled on Planet Puzzle League for the latest iteration. This DS version is excellent. You will have fun playing this puzzle game, whether it's your first time or you've been playing for years. Unlike the Pokemon, Panel de pon, and Tetris Attack versions, there is no story mode in the one player mode. But, really, this game is about puzzling, not story-telling.

You can play single player or with a bunch of friends wirelessly, and you can also play against opponents online. Which is where my 'one little thing' comes in. If you have played Tetris DS, you may have noticed their online ranking system, which awards you points when you beat someone and takes points away when you lose. This is a great system and really adds to the replay value, because you can work really hard to improve your personal score. Sadly, Planet Puzzle League, although you can play online versus other people, does not have this system. There is some crazy setup where you can compare your win/loss record with people who share your same birthday (of all things!), but a regular ranking system is not there.

For this reason, I have to give Planet Puzzle League a 4 out of 5. It is a great game. It is exactly what it should be, except for no online ranking system. Which, unfortuately, is important to me. Playing someone for no ranking points is like playing poker for toothpicks. It's still poker, but who really cares? Do you want to go home with a bunch of toothpicks? No. I do not. I want to go home knowing I'm one of the best Planet Puzzle League players in all the world. But I'll never know if I am, because this fun little game can't tell me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overall puzzle game, September 7, 2007

I'll start off saying that I picked up this game on a whim (on sale for $20), and in the end I got a bit more than I expected. The game mechanics are easy to learn, but there are enough advance techniques to keep the game interesting. I like the different modes (Puzzle, Daily Play, Endless, etc.), because again it adds to the re-play value. Wireless is also a big plus. I have two boys that love the DS, so we play a lot of wirelss. It is easy to handicap each player based on ability, so we have great fun playing together. I won't call it a 5-star game, because it still can't stand up to some other well known puzzle games (I'm talking about you, Tetris). But, I will say that I keep coming back for more. I've had is for a month now, and it is still my most frequent play.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Puzzle Game, Great for DS, July 9, 2007
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Planet Puzzle League (Video Game)
This was my first DS game and I was a little hesitant to pick it up, because it was such a new release. However, you will quickly find that this little puzzle game makes great use of the touch screen and allows you to play by holding the DS vertically and using the stylus, or horizontally and using the D-pad. Although I have yet to try the online mode (scared that I will get destroyed), I have played wirelessly with my brother and we had a blast! If you have a DS I strongly suggest you pick this up along with Mario Kart & Elite Beat Agents!

The concept is simple - line up three or more matching tiles and they disappear. Build combos for even more points, and see how long you last as they move up the screen faster and faster. I'm a puzzle game addict and I love this one. I got hooked on the GBA version and was delighted that they came out with a DS version. Best yet is that while there are improvements to the game, they didn't completely change it. You can use the touch-screen if you want, but you aren't forced to. I love that because I prefer not using it.

Sort of like Tetris but more variety. Play it on line, I had no problem finding opponents. Play it DS to DS. This was an easy wireless hookup, and only one cartrige required.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good with only one problem, November 15, 2007
= Fun:4.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Planet Puzzle League (Video Game)
This is a great game. It has a variety of play modes, and even a fun "daily play" mode that can be done once and you can watch how you improve over time. The only problem I have with it is that it only tracks one high score! It's annoying because when I was first learning, I put in an insanely high score on the beginner level and it's turned out to be impossible to ever catch up to it when on the advanced level. This one high score shows as "the" high score regardless of which game or play level.

It's a minor issue, though, and one that I haven't worried about too much. This is my favorite DS Lite game.

I'm a big fan of games which can provide a sense of accomplishment without necessitating a large time commitment. This is a perfect game to play when you need a quick break. There are many modes which you can finish in 5 minutes or less.

If you want to spend more time, there are also plenty modes that allow you to play as long as you can while the difficulty constantly increases. My wife and I are constantly trying to one up each other's high scores in the different game modes.
