5.0 out of 5 stars As good as anything I've used, quicker, and handier.
I've used a LOT of capos. They seem to fundamentally fall into two categories, each of which I define by their flaw. The first are capos that require two hands (or lots of time and finesse with one hand, if one-hand operation is even possible). The problem here is that I don't want to stand on stage (or even during practice by myself) messing with capos. The second...

3.0 out of 5 stars Try it for the twelve string, keep it for the six.
Good concept and design for quick change action. May work well for the six string, but definitely is inadequate in clamping down the highs on a twelve string (tested on a Seagull Coastline S12). Most 12 strings are high tension, which sets high demands on capo choices. On a side note, the Planet Waves NS Capo - Silver from Planet Waves has worked fine for the twelve...

The second group are capos that can be operated with one hand but press down WAY TOO HARD on the strings and make them go sharp. This isn't so bad if you're playing solo, but playing with a group, you'll be out of tune, and if you don't capo all the strings (I often leave the low E open), the open string(s) will be out of tune with the sharped, capo'd strings.

The Planet Waves Dual Action manages to solve both these problems. It's easy to squeeze and a real pleasure to use with one hand (much easier than the Dunlop or Kyser), and it doesn't press the strings down too hard. It's got a dial, in fact, that you can use to augment whatever amount of pressure you choose.

Perfection? Almost. It actually doesn't always press the strings down quite hard enough, even with the dial turned all the way up (though this is also still a problem even with the fanciest one-hand capos, like the G7th Performance Capo, which, frankly, I find is not so easy to operate with one hand). Frustrating, but it's an acceptable trade off.

It also has a rather sharp edge to it that can rub against your hand if you play in an unusual manner (as I do). I've filed it smooth, and now it's fine.

Still, it's about the best I've found in the capo world, and for that, and to balance out the ludicrous one-star rating below, I give it five stars.

4.0 out of 5 stars Every Guitar Player Should Have This Capo!, January 30, 2011

This sure is the easiest, most non-obtrusive, fastest and most accurate capo on the market - just wish they would make it more heavy duty.
I would pay more money for the extra quality.
Gave it 4 out of 5 stars as one broke when I grabbed it the wrong way. I have 2 left.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Capo Out There, March 9, 2012

This is the perfect capo. It's only a couple of bucks more than the competition but the fact that it allows you to change the pressure makes it a lot nicer. The system is really straight forward and looks good, no matter what music style you play.

I would not buy any other capo in the future unless the price difference is really big.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what you need!, December 3, 2011

Everyone who sees my Capo ask about it and want to try it. It mutes the strings perfectly and is easy to place and move. Once you adjust the tension for your guitar, it does an excellent job. Some of the older spring Capos lose their holding power and slip. This Capo is padded in the right spots and won't damage your guitar.

I've been playing guitar since the days when elastic capos were the only ones you could find. My search is finally over -- this capo truly offers the best of both worlds. You can custom-adjust it to your neck like a Shubb, but get one-squeeze ease and clamp it to your headstock like a Kyser. Only downside is that people like them so much they tend to walk off with them at jams. Ordering two more!

It works great in my acoustics and even my Ibanez s570B, it is just sort of fragile, but nothing one can handle, not like you are going to throw a car on it but it is fine! the adjustable pressure function is great! totally woth! I would really recommend it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice capo!, October 30, 2011

I've used a shubb and a kyser, and the planet waves dual-action capo basically combines the good points of both (shubb--doesn't pull strings to the sides so strings dont go sharp / kyser--quick to change / move around).

The tension knob is easy to use, capo fits perfectly on the three guitars I've tried... it does get in the way a little more than a shubb does, but the difference is negligible. I highly recommend this item.

This is the second capo that I have purchased from Planet Waves. After losing my first capo, I did not even hesitate when shopping around for a second one. Easy to use, zero buzzing, and a plain black color that looks great on any guitar. I would recommend this capo to any player, novice or seasoned musician.

4.0 out of 5 stars best capo so far, June 15, 2010

I can't speak to the durability of this capo, but so far it does what its claims to; performs like any other capo without completely putting your guitar out of tune. It doesn't always work perfectly, but it certainly works a lot better than any other snap-on type capo that I have tried. At this price its hard to go wrong.
