5.0 out of 5 stars Great little tuner
Very nice item - the fact that it flips from red to green when in tune speeds up its use onstage. The single best thing about ANY of these headstock tuners is not subjecting the audience to your tuning - the audience doesn't need to and SHOULDN'T hear you tuning. The Planet Waves is also very sensitive - I've been using a seven string for 23 years now, and most of the...

Just received my tuner and I like the way it operates: easy to read, accurate I think and picks up the low E much better than my last tuner - an Intelli.
However, as indicated in the 1 star review already posted by someone else, I'm concerned about it's durability, given those light-duty plastic rings encircling the spring pin. In fact, the first one I received...

However, as indicated in the 1 star review already posted by someone else, I'm concerned about it's durability, given those light-duty plastic rings encircling the spring pin. In fact, the first one I received came broken right out of the box right at that spot. I received a replacement today, which so far seems fine.

this tuner is awesome. i have tried several other types of tuners and this one is sooo much better! it's so quick and easy. Within only one or two plucks of each string, i'm there. The display is easy to read and it works great in any environment, bright, dark, loud...doesn't matter and it's so small, i can easily tuck it away for travel. i highly recommend this tuner!

The single part that must carry the most stress is the weakest component on the whole device.
The clothespin design relies on a tiny metal spring. The ends of the spring connect to two little holes in the clip. One of these holes cracked in half. The first time I used this it broke. Very disappointed with this.

I really liked this little tuner for 16 months. It replaced a more expensive and clunkier clip on tuner that's battery box door cracked. Tonight I went to clip the tuner on an electric guitar in my living room (only used it at home) and the hinges broke off. Here's a clue engineering guys...spring loaded hinges made of plastic are probably NOT such a good idea!

**Update** 01-25-11 - In fairness to Planet Waves and D'Addario, after inspecting the failure, they stood behind their product and replaced the tuner. Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best damn tuner ever!!, December 11, 2009

I bought two of these after a friend showed one to me. I have used it on a ukulele, a strat (plugged and unplugged), a 6 string arch top, and a 7 string archtop and it works quickly and easily to assist in getting tuned up. One of my other tuners had a nasty buzz, another didn't pick up the strings properly and I found that I needed to play a harmonic to get it to work. The Planet Waves tuner works fine just picking the string normally. I can't say enough about how well it works. The construction seems fine to me and the feature of changing colors when you get in tune is helpful. The compact design should help it stay on the guitar - unlike my other tuner that tended to fall off because it was about 6" long. You won't be disappointed.

I've always used a Boss Chromatic pedal which is a top notch tuner. However, I've recently wanted to shed some of the weight and physical bulk of "things" I carry to and from the gig. I tried several similar headstock clip-on style tuners including the rather costly Intellitouch, all of which were inadequate for my needs.

This little tuner ended up being my final choice. It's fantastic! It goes without saying, I absolutely love the little lightweight size. It so small and low profile that I just leave it on my headstock throughout the gig (without exception, I always shy away from devices remaining on my guitar while I'm playing). I've had it for several months now, using it typically 4 or 5 nights a week with no problems to report at all. I'm also still on the original battery that came with the tuner. It's very robust, having lived through several drops on both concrete and wood floors from standing height. It works without a hitch in very loud environments as well. I've used it regularly in noisy pubs with a very loud P.A. in close proximity. It performs great without any cross-talk vibration issues. Very bright and easy to read display both in dark environments as well as bright outdoor gigs. Buttons are great. I play in 442, so I have to bump it up from 440 every time I turn it on which actually is really quick and easy. However, if I were to ask for any changes, I would ask only that it retain it's latest setting when switched off and then back on. But, again, the buttons are super easy and quick.

This has by far been the best headstock clip-on style tuner I have come across. Excellent design and a great price. I would absolutely, highly recommend it to anyone who has considered any of the points I have mentioned. I hope this helps someone!

Just as described in the product review. Pretty accurate and easy to use. The only thing that kept me giving it 5 stars was the fact that is a bit of a challenge to clamp it onto the headstock of some guitars. I own an Ibanez RG series guitar ad find it hard to get a good placement due to lack of space and proximity of the machine heads. But besides that, it works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this thing!, January 3, 2012

I've had this tuner for over 2 years now. I LOVE it!! I love that it's very low profile and I've found it to be quite accurate. The LED display is very easy to read... both with heavy stage lighting and in the dark. I also like that it doesn't suck a bunch of power as well. Like I said, I've had it for over 2 years now and have only had to change the battery once... ONCE!! (Granted, I make sure I turn it off and not let it turn itself off with the "auto-off" feature.)

One thing you'll want to make sure doesn't fool you at first is the "low battery" icon. It's that the LED display is actually so bright that you can pretty much at all times see the icon. It's not on, it just looks like it could be on because you constantly see it's outline. But you'll see that when the battery is low, the icon actually lights up.

Other than that MINOR detail, THIS IS A GREAT PRODUCT. And I would highly recommend!

Much better than a couple of cheaper ones I've tried. It's truly chromatic (works for weird tunings), it senses all 6 strings equally well, and it has good precision (although you still have to fine-tune by ear after you did initial tuning with this device).
