1.0 out of 5 stars Cheap
Dont waste your money on this, its cheap and dingy your better off just using a pillow to prop your neck up. Any movement and the thing just falls over.

This little geegaw is a stable tripod stand to hold the neck of your guitar while you restring it or perform other work. It folds into a nice small package you can store in the gear compartment of most cases. The rubber pads on the neck end prevent scratches and the feet keep it in place on the table. It may be best to invest in a non slip pad to place under the heel of the guitar body for protection and to prevent it from slipping around as movement can topple the stand if you're not careful. Sure, a suitably sized cardboard box or stack of books will also serve that purpose, but what else would you spend the $10 on?

4.0 out of 5 stars Convenient solution, January 15, 2007
This review is from: Planet Waves Guitar Headstand (Electronics)
For anyone who changes their instrument strings on a regular and frequent basis, this device is extremely useful. It's quite small, around 7 inches long. But it has soft rubber to support the neck of the instrument and the rubber feet will keep it from sliding around on most surfaces. I usually lay a soft towel down on my count for body of my guitar or banjo. No more trying to change strings with the instrument on your lap! I left off one star because I would have liked it to be a little taller to keep the neck just a little more elevated, very minor quibble though.

Wish I have discovered this a few years ago. It does a great job, takes up little space, and is very handy to have around if you tinker with guitars, or just change strings regularly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad design - unstable, keeps falling over., September 14, 2010

If you make any movement (beyond a tiny push) towards the headstock, the stand falls over.

I have the Planet Waves NS capo, the Planet Waves string winder/cutter, and the Planet Waves Guitar Tools iPhone app, and they are all great. I don't know what happened with this Planet Waves product, but don't waste your money on it because it makes string changes and other guitar work a hassle because you're always worried the stand will tip over.

good product, just plain blow molded plastic but if you get it for $10-15 bucks, I suppose it's an OK value. It's very portable if that is your desire.

But, for much less, you can cut a V in a block of 2x4 wood and line it with felt.

I saw this on the bench at my luthier's shop and it looked so handy, I just had to have it. I didn't know what to call it and had a hard time finding it but eventually tripped across it. It's lightweight and can easily be carried in the pocket of your gig bag. Whether just tuning your guitar or doing some major work, this headstand is perfect. The grey tips in the picture are the non-skid surfaces - perfect.

For the average guitar player, who may change a couple sets of strings a month, this little gem is a great tool to have. It keeps the guitar just high enough off the work surface to use a string winder..takes up very little room in your bag, and weighs next to nothing. Probably not good for a guitar tech who works on guitars for 8 hours a day.

I bought this to make my string changing easier and it works, although it can be a little unsteady sometimes, but you just gotta take it slow. I like it and I'm happy with the buy.
