I usually didn't bother to retrieve a string winder from my case but now there is a winder that serves two functions. This Pro-Winder(and its close relative the Bass Pro-Winder) have dedicated string cutters built in so you don't need any other tool for string changes. Planet Waves stands behind this with an unconditional guarantee too so if you ever manage to break it you can send it back to them and they'll replace it. I am slowly accumulating one of these for every guitar I have so that I can keep one handy, right in the case. This is a product I recommend highly.
