I bought this lunch box because I was forever cleaning out little Tupperwares and I wanted a better way. I love the metal case. It is absolutely perfect. Even my kid's teachers like it. When he gets home, it goes straight into the dishwasher, no fuss. The idea that you can personalize with magnets has been really fun for my 5 year old.

Now for the case. After one day, the gray ribbing around the case broke. I am not sure what my son could of done to the bag in 4 hours. I complained and after sending photos I was sent a new case but warned this is normal wear and tear. I was really impressed with the customer service. I figured I would keep the new bag until the first one was truly unusable. After one washing in the machine, the bag fell apart around the area of the small tear in the ribbing. So thank goodness I had the spare. In order to keep the bag in clearn condition, the metal case now travels in a plastic bag in the case. My son came home with a small tear in the ribbing...I am getting nervous.

If I had to do it over again, I would buy the metal case but not the canvas bag.

If you actually go to planetlunchbox's website you can order any color with any magnet. I enjoyed the ability to pick my own combination. Hope this helps.

We adore our planet box complete set. I struggled for a while with the cost but then realized that it is actually a great deal if you do the math. We wanted to use an alternative to plastic, even BPA-free plastic since you never know what else will turn up as a hazardous material. Glass is out of the question by request of the preschool and it can be heavy if it is tempered. So that left stainless steel. If you are getting high quality stainless steel for food storage, you will end up paying upwards around $45 to get enough boxes for a complete meal (1 for main course, 1 for fruit, 1 for side dish/snacks, etc.) and then you also need to buy a lunchbag to carry it in, which will set you back another $15 too. But for the PlanetBox, not only are you getting the bento lunchbox that has perfect compartment sizes for correctly portioned lunches, but you also get a really well-designed carry bag AND 2 stainless steel containers for wet things (1 for a wet main dish and 1 small one for dip/dressing). So really, it is an excellent bargain! Ok, now that we got the price out of the way, let me tell you what I love about this lunchbox:

1. Longevity and durability. I have a 3 y.o. and this lunchbox will last him many years. It is a high quality stainless steel that will last forever. It doesn't feel too big right now and yet he won't grow out of it portion-wise until at least after elementary school. Right now we don't pack it totally full and sometimes use the long compartment to put a napkin and utensil instead of food since he already gets snacks provided by the preschool. When we go out for a full day, we will pack it more full so he has all his snacks as well as his full lunch in there.

I really love this lunch box. It makes packing lunches, easier and more organized. My kids actually eat more of their lunch now because its all there in front of them in an organized matter and they don't have to pull out and open individual containers to get to their food. They actually love eating from this. Also, the stainless steel lunchbox is so durable and easy to clean. I used to have the laptop lunch bento boxes, which were also pretty good, but there were so many individual containers to clean, and their box wasn't as durable. I really love using Planet Box. Here's a tip: The small lided container for packing wet messy foods, like yogurt or dipping sauce is NOT leak proof. I bought LunchBots Dips condiments containers which ARE leak proof and they fit perfectly in the planetbox. I use the LunchBot dips containers for really wet stuff and the planetbox ones for the not so wet stuff. Also the Planetbox is a bit heavier than most lunchboxes but my kids are 9 so its a non-issue.

I bought this a year ago for my 5yo to take everyday for school lunch. He loves it and so has everyone else that has seen it. After a full year of little boy use the metal box is in new condition. The dippers are in great condition too but I have been afraid that the sealing rings in the lids would get lost. The rings pop out quite easily which is great for washing but bad at school. I have had several lunches come home where the ring is loose in the box somewhere instead of in the dipper lid. The case got holes in the back corners (inside where the metal hinges tend to rub) early on in the year but has stood up reasonably well otherwise. I have noticed that if my son doesn't get the lid on his water on tight it will leak all over the bag and leave water stains. Over all I would definately buy another box for my other 2 kids when they start school but I am thinking maybe a neoprene laptop sleeve would make a better bag. My son loves the magnets and I have made tons of my own by putting stickers on magnetic business cars and cutting them out. Since this box was quite an investment I also wanted to make sure his name was clearly and permanently on his box. I found a cheep set of metal stamping letters and a backer block at hobby lobby and stamped his name in. It was easy (and fun too). I have used the stamp set for labeling all our household keys which was a really nice bonus! Beaducation.com has a free tutorial type class to show you how to stamp on metel if you are interested in stamping your lunchbox!
