Deeply relaxing and richly harmonic, Planetary Chronicles is one of the best examples of New Age music.

Jonn Serrie is a composer with a vision, and that vision is SPACE: the awesome majesty and mystery of the cosmos. This album has not only defined what deep space music is, and what it must be, but it has set the standard very high indeed. All of the tracks on this album are memorable, but the best is surely the last one, On a Frontier of Fables. This piece is an extended excerpt from "Aniara", a production of the Bishop Planetarium in Bradenton, FL. Majestic, dark, and sweeping are just some of the words that describe this cosmic music from the depths of space and time. Be sure to turn off the lights when you listen to this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and impressive, May 23, 2000

Well I have to say, this album was all I hoped it to be - dark, deep space music plus some nice sweet harmonies for balance. Jonn Serrie had let his imagination really flow on and on for this album. Considering the time of composition and recording, the production is surprisingly good and doesn't sound cheesy, like a lot of other mid-80's "New Age" recordings. If only this were scored in the later 90's, the production would be dazzling! Very enjoyable, and definitely recommended if what you want is to hear some flowing space music.

I have just discovered Jonn Serrie!! This has to be on of the finest recordings of space music I have found. I feel as if I have been transported to the far reaches of the universe and back again. When I listen to this, I feel all the tension of the day completely melt away, as if there was not a bone in my body. I love to turn out the lights, put on my headphones and drift off in to space, and let the music surround me. Vol 1 is a wonderful companion to this one. Get them both ....and all of his others too. You won't regret it.

Vol II makes me wish Jonn Serrie would make a Vol III but II is going to be hard to equal much less exceed. Vol II made me forget about Vol I but that's not to say it isn't an excellent work also. My personal favorite is "Vista Range" but all the songs are good. If you're into astronomy this will really add a new dimension to it. "First Night Out" gives me the feeling of exploring the solar system on my way out to deep space and with a little imagination that's where this CD will take you.

"Planetary Chronicles II" is, without question, pure premium deep space music. Feel your mind become the vast darkness of the universe. Travel into the solitude of deep space. And when the c.d. is over, you might feel as if you actually went somewhere far from earth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Jonn Serrie's Best Work, May 26, 2010
This review is from: Planetary Chronicles, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
I have just about everything Jonn has put out. This is still my favorite of his by far. Musically textured and pleasantly spacey, Its one of my go to albums. In fact, I can safely say that "On a Frontier of Fables" is my favorite song Jonn Serrie has ever done. I wouldn't even mind if he did a whole album from that song. My one minor gripe would be that it would probably sound better if it was remastered.

Yes, another journey to both outer and inner space with a space master. This CD is just what you would expect from John Serrie, beauty, simplicity, space.

5.0 out of 5 stars the definition of space music, July 11, 2000

This review is from: Planetary Chronicles, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
This is for fans of space music which is deep and harmonious, and arouses that wonderful feeling of floating and infinite depth. Listen with a good system or headphones to hear all the intricacies of this wonderful album.

This is, in my opinion, Jonn Serrie's best.
