Remember that huge cube borg ship from the Star Trek Next Generation show and movies? Ever wonder what the night club music might sound like in there? I'll bet it sounds similar to this. "Planned Penetration" is off the very obscure, very progressive, arguably coolest independent label out there, Waveform. I'll admit it took some time for me to get acclimated to it, but it was worth it, absolutely. The only acustic instrument used is a trumpet, played from what sounds like a fair distance from the microphone to give a genuine nightclub feel. Underlying it are both smooth and funky, often bizzare and unorthodox synthesizer chords and drum programming. (I'm sure jazz purists would prefer real percussionists, but then so would Kozo I'll bet. The whole thing was recorded in his home) As said earlier, I kept getting weird images of a bunch of borg sitting around getting drunk and smokin' as a collective in dark but neon lit space tavern of sorts. This was particualr so on the "Power Station A" and "B" cuts. This isn't music one can dance, cuddle to or meditate with. It's most definately an "acquired taste", if you get into it at all. Just when Kozo gets into a steady groove he'll knock the baseline out of rythm to throw you off. But it's unique, and it's MY kind of unique. I'm afraid I don't know enough about jazz to make any comparisions. I was intrigued by what I heard, as it stands. No one particular track stands out. It's more a complete beginning to end listening experience.

Highly recommended for the adventurous and those looking for something REALLY different.

Product link too complicated for me to do, but I enjoy the CD. It is more interesting than much of the ambient
music I hear. If I remember right, the composer/performer plays all of the various percussion instruments
as well as the trumpet, and there is constant subtle variety and change. I found the title a bit embarrassing
to order, but I really liked the music and wanted it.

From the first smoke filled beats, this is a CD that stretches the envelope in a VERY cool way. I put this on and let it play over and over in my car CD player and drove to the desert and remembered nothing about the drive but the music. What a trip!
