5.0 out of 5 stars Help for a first time wedding director
I have looked in several book stores for a book that would give me the guidance I felt I needed to tackle directing a wedding and found nothing. Finding "Planning and Directing a Wedding" has saved the day for me. It has answered almost all of my questions in a clear, easy to follow, organized way. I purchased this book because we were conducting the wedding ceremony ourselves, without the help of a consultant or wedding director. Although this little book does offer brief advice on many aspects of planning a wedding, it focuses mostly on the arrangements of bridal party and the formal church wedding ceremony. Any bride who has purchased a wedding planning book will have all this information, and in more detail. In the Author's Note's, she describes one purpose of the book as "[to] give a wedding committee member a method on how to direct". That might be the most useful purpose for this book.

It wasnt exaclty what I was looking for to start my own wedding consultant business, but I did like the organization skills it teaches you. I liked the examples they used for keeping track of everything, I wouldnt have thought about that myself. It is very good if you are planning your own wedding.

2.0 out of 5 stars Helpful if you've never directed a wedding, April 27, 2006
This review is from: Planning and Directing a Wedding: Guidelines for a Bride, Mother, and Director (Paperback)
This book is geared more for the director of traditional Christian church weddings. If you are church wedding director and unfamiliar with directing a wedding, then this is a great book for you. However, if you are a bride who wants to a unique, personalized, non-cookie cutter wedding, then pass this one by. We live in the 21st century, and these days there are so many options to planning a beautiful wedding. The author holds fast to several outdated traditions and uses too many "shoulds". Also, what about the groom? It's HIS wedding, not the mother of the bride's. There are several wedding planning books available that will help you in planning a lovely, elegant ceremony.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Essential Book for Wedding Directors, March 30, 2010

This review is from: Planning and Directing a Wedding: Guidelines for a Bride, Mother, and Director (Paperback)
I consider this book an essential part of my bridal directing and have used it for every wedding over the last 10 years. As a director, it has allowed me to have all the information to insure that the rehearsal and wedding run smoothly and efficiently. There is a list of questions included in the book that I prepare for the bride. Her answers translate to diagrams for the placement of the bridal party and organization of the entire wedding. In fact, the first wedding I directed was so organized that no one knew I was a novice!
The book also includes initial planning guidelines, however, I have used it mainly for directing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Planning & directing a wedding: Guidelines for a bride, mother, and director, January 8, 2008
This review is from: Planning and Directing a Wedding: Guidelines for a Bride, Mother, and Director (Paperback)
My niece asked me to direct her wedding, which I have never done. Even though directing a wedding was high on my "wish to do one day list," I never thought I'd have the chance to do it. With this book it made it all possible. It made me think of things that I hadn't in a long time. The step by step directions gave us a very close to perfect wedding. People thought I had done this many times before. Thanks for the great book! I'll keep it for my daughter to use in 5-6 yrs.

This review is from: Planning and Directing a Wedding: Guidelines for a Bride, Mother, and Director (Paperback)
I once purchased this book when I directed my first wedding, but could not locate it when my daughter started planning her wedding. It serves as a wonderful guideline whether you are planning or directing a wedding. It covers all aspects of planning and executing a wedding. The author is very knowledgeable and experienced. Obviously, I found it helpful, because I bought it twice.

This is a very small book that has a few useful tid bits but there are many other more useful resources out there. Mostly it includes information on the different formations you can choose for the ceremony (who can stand where or with whom). I suggest just buying a large planner and it will include the information included in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous book for directing a wedding, October 4, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Planning and Directing a Wedding: Guidelines for a Bride, Mother, and Director (Paperback)
All the info you need for directing a wedding whether you are the bride, the mother, or the director. Although I had no prior experience, I was able to direct a wedding without a hitch. This book gives all the details of how the to conduct the ceremony: from the pace of the bridesmaids and groomsmen to the unity candle to the seating and un-seating of the mothers with all the timing down to the last detail. The only area it may be remiss in is the inclusion of step-parents, parent's girl/boyfriends. If you need help directing any wedding (yours or someone elses) this book is a must.
