Editorial Reviews

Review

'Whether it's plucking out an activity to start or finish a lesson { ... } or whether you're at your wit's end on how to deal with a large and unruly class - this book offers ideas and help. Verdict: ***** a great book for new and experienced teachers alike.' British Council Network News

'There are loads of activities for teachers to try out and experiment with. I'm sure almost any teacher could benefit from the wealth of practical wisdom and thought-provoking reflection in the book.' Modern English Teacher

'Meaty, but nicely presented so very digestible. A great book with a personalised approach on a really practical subject, and one that new teachers in particular will find very hard.' TEFL Farm

5.0 out of 5 stars Some excellent ideas for English teachers around the world, June 20, 2010

This review is from: Planning Lessons and Courses: Designing Sequences of Work for the Language Classroom (Cambridge Handbooks for Language Teachers) (Paperback)
I used this book as a set text for a Curriculum and Materials Design course I attended as part of a Master's Degree in Teaching English as a Second or Other Language. So it is a text that I have studied closely and used extensively to complete assignments related to the topics of lesson, curriculum and syllabus development and evaluation. It contains many interesting ideas that would be very useful for any teacher, especially a teacher of English as a foreign or second language. This book is a definite keeper. I have implemented some of the simpler activities in my classes (I have been teaching English in South Korea for over 8 years) and have found them to be very effective. Some of the tips and activities such as "an animal a day" and "window breaks" have been lifesavers in class. I intend to use this book thoroughly next semester and see if I can create a more varied and active class.
