3.0 out of 5 stars Nice idea, not exactly ethical
I really like the "Path of the Heart" idea in the introduction so I bought the book. I've just finished the chapter on study strategy.
I accept pre-med school is very competitive. But strategies suggest might get you an A in the class, but you won't know an atom
from inch worm at the end of four years. No the kind of doctor I want to become.

This amazing book has wisdom in it I wish I had come across earlier in my student career. I am very happy with how comprehensive it is and would recommend it to anyone considering a career in medicine. U of A Premeds rock on! :)

Its not the best for getting into med school but it does give some good tips for lasting pre-med & med school...It focuses more on AFTER med school starting with residency.

5.0 out of 5 stars Forget about pre-med advisors, November 18, 2011

This review is from: Planning a Life in Medicine: Discover If a Medical Career is Right for You and Learn How to Make It Happen (Career Guides) (Paperback)
before i read this book i was lost. everyone gave advice and pretended to know best on how to get into med school even though none of them actually got in. i had spent money and time trying to get into the most competitive premedical programs and taking courses and credits i thought were a MUST to get into med school. After i received this book from my sis i realized how wrong i was. i'm doing a BA now in an area that i love while i do my prerequisites for med school.

this book replaces all the pre-med advisors and expensive books out there. it breaks down step by step what you need to do. it gives advice on how to study & learn the pre-requisite courses (both sciene + humanities) and illustrates clearly how you don't need to be a A+ student to succeed and get into medical school. Best of all it made me realize that medical school is a life long career/school and that before you put all the work into it make sure you know what exactly you want.

I couldn't let go of this book once i started. within the first 2 weeks of reading this book my grades got better and i finally know where i'm going and how to get there. If you're sure you want med school or not.... this book will definitely clear all these doubts and put you back on the right track

I'm a pre-med student at Louisiana Tech, and I purchased this book after it was recommened to me in a medical school information course. It's very informative! It'll give you insight into alot of areas. It also will shine some light on areas you may not have been paying attention too.

I bought this book with the idea of returning to college to do Pre-med, I am currently working on becoming an RN instead. But this book seems to have quality advice. I am glad I bought it. I hope to use it in the future if I want to goto Nurse-Doctor. More reading material cannot hurt.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, April 8, 2005
This review is from: Planning a Life in Medicine: Discover If a Medical Career is Right for You and Learn How to Make It Happen (Career Guides) (Paperback)
I am a senior in high school planning to do pre med at a four year university. This is would be considered an excellent read if you have no idea about the basic requirements and challenges of medical school. On the other hand, if you already have a solid background on what it takes to become a physician then the material is very repititive.

Personally, I had a thorough knowledge of medicine before I read this book. But the timeline that is provided in the book that suggests a courseload seemed to be very useful. I am definitely going to use this book as a reference when I am ready to apply to medical school.
