3.0 out of 5 stars Until someone makes a great one, The Best Case I Can Find..
If you're like me you don't want to sign an airline liability waiver when you check your clubs without a hard-sided case. Invest in this case- while it isn't perfect, it's by far the best hard sided case I can find (and I've tried several). I can fit my carry bag, what I can stuff into it, two pairs of shoes, and my standard length driver without having to take it out...

If you're like me you don't want to sign an airline liability waiver when you check your clubs without a hard-sided case. Invest in this case- while it isn't perfect, it's by far the best hard sided case I can find (and I've tried several). I can fit my carry bag, what I can stuff into it, two pairs of shoes, and my standard length driver without having to take it out of my bag. Be careful of the locks and hinges- they are flimsy. I would highly recommend investing in a nylon snap-lock strap, like ones sold for backpacking. Size it to fit the waist of the case through the handle. On one of my current cases, the top lock and hinge are broken, but with the strap I've made a dozen trips without a problem. It's hard to go wrong with this case when it costs less then shipping your clubs one way via FedEx or a bag shipping company...

3.0 out of 5 stars Just the right size, June 19, 2011
This review is from: Plano Golf Guard Standard Case (Sports)
I bought this because I didn't want an overly bulky hard case, but I did want the protection the hard case gives versus the soft case. I used it for 6 years flying to and from golf trips, finally last year TSA broke the latch (sheered it off) which I didn't realize until it was too late. The plastic latches are not real strong, but if you use a strap as recommended by another user, the case should be perfect for you, it fits ONE pair of shoes and a golf bag comfortably. (and some towels, pullovers, raingear, etc).
The other huge benefit of this hard case is that it fits in rental cars and trunks much easier than the competitive bulky cases and it's 1/3 or more less than their prices. I would give it 5 stars if it had a more robust latching system and it had a foam lining inside, other than that it's a great case.

1.0 out of 5 stars Thin, flimsy and broken, July 20, 2010

This case only has three latches on it and they do not work very well. I would consider this to be a disposable item. I used it to take a set of clubs on one trip. On the way out, the latch was mangled because the pins holding the latch easily slide out. I managed to fix this but recognized that I was lucky that I still had a latch. A traveling companion bought this same item and had the same problem with the same latch. On the trip back, the latch was completely broken off. Now, if I want to use this case, I'll have to buy a strap to go around it to keep it from coming open.

Despite what some reviewers found, I find this case to be on the small side. I had to cram a normal-sized bag into it and had no room for my shoes. My traveling companion had to remove his driver from his bag and lay it down the side of the case, subjecting it to being possibly bent if his case were mishandled.

I do not recommend this case at all. Other cases are larger, have more latches and are sturdier.

1.0 out of 5 stars Looks can be deceiving...., May 17, 2010

The case looks nice and durable, but the design and possibly the material selection for the latches is poor. Also believe the pins for holding the latches to the case could be done better. I received my case and had a broken latch from merely taking the case out of the box. I then checked the other two latches, and another one broke attempting to close it. Plano was good about sending me replacement latches, but that should not have to occur. Finally, I took my clubs for one trip to Phoenix and had another broken latch upon landing at my home airport. Two direct flights = one broken latch. Very sad.

If you buy this product, make sure to buy a TSA approved luggage lock and a luggage strap to ensure the case will not open during handling.

Case arrived with a broken latch; plastic case is flimsy, and would not have survived a single trip through baggage claim. I sent it back.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hard shell golf travel case is best for airline travel, December 27, 2009
This review is from: Plano Golf Guard Standard Case (Sports)
I've been using this hard shell golf travel case for the past 14 years. Although I get a bunch of grief from my golf buddies because it doesn't squash down in the trunk of the car as easily as the soft cases, I have never had any of my golf clubs damaged. In fact, you must sign a damage waiver on some airlines (Southwest Airlines I know for sure) when you check a soft golf case but you do NOT have to sign such a waiver when you check this hard shell golf case.

4.0 out of 5 stars Useful, flexible, and spacious, September 6, 2009
This review is from: Plano Golf Guard Standard Case (Sports)
Excellent item, lightweight. I use it to carry around lighting stands and cords, and it is great for that. It is flexible, and not very rigid - although when closed and latched it firms up. Seems durable, and the built in wheels are great.

Plain and simple -- this product is junk. The latches are extremely weak. I used my travel case one time for a trip to the Caribbean, and two of the three latches broke.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arrived with broke latch, January 13, 2010

This review is from: Plano Golf Guard Standard Case (Sports)
I just had the travel golf case arrive tonight for my husbands's birthday and up coming trip to Arizona to find the top latch broken. I am concerned about the durabilty if it broke when being shipped. My husband tried the case to make sure all his clubs fit in case we get the same golf case exchanged, and everything did fit. Not sure if I will have to pay for shipping back now, but disappointed that it arrived broken.
