Very nice case for the money. Unfortunately it will not fit a AR-15 carbine with collapsible stock which is what I bought it for. After arrival I found the case is 36"L x 10.75"W x 4"H which is not listed on the Amazon product page. The big limitation is a solid plastic horizontal separator in the middle of the case that is not really visible in the pics. If you look at the pictures the rectangle below the handle is where the molded separator is which divides the case into two areas for a take down rifle or shotgun. If the case was one big open area it would be so much more functional.

Good basic case with moderate protection,

This case is great if you want a basic case for protecting you over/under or side-by-side and your not planning on dropping it out of an airplane or throwing your case around. The interlocking pillars work well to provide crush resistance.
It is airline approved though I wouldn't put a super expensive shotgun in the case and trust the baggage handlers, they may end up being too rough. It dose not have slots build in specifically for the receiver and barrels as some of the fancier ones do. With much jostling you may manage to get some contact between the receiver and barrel causing a scratch or damage. It is one big piece of foam. Good for transporting to-and-from the range and as a home storage device of your firearm. I heard the argument about putting an expensive shotgun in a plastic case before, but this case protects my shotgun and fits my needs. I don't plan on throwing my shotgun from a helicopter, heaving it over a fence, or having it fall down a flight if stairs. So if your looking for an affordable transporter and/or storage case for your shotgun this is a good option.

If you don't mind the trouble of engaging and disengaging the barrel this case can save a lot of trunk and closet space. Just like one of other reviewers mentioned this case is 36" long. Fits broken down Mossberg or Remington 870 with no problem. The styrofoam inserts could be a bit thicker but still do the trick holding the contents tight. Two front-side latches combined with two more on the sides hold the closed case intact. It locks pretty well leaving minor gap behind the handle. Overall, it's a good case for the price.

Worth the savings but consider carefully...,

I ordered this after a lot of searching for a case to hold my new Remington VTR. The gun is an AR style 22 so nothing to bulky and i figured the case would be the perfect fit for her. Well I should have paid attention to all the other reviews that mentioned despite the measurements it was a tight fit for just about any rifle.
The problem is that the case is about 1 inch to short and also 1 inch to slim to really close properly with just a Red Dot scope attached. It does close and is useable however I don't like that its so tight and even has about a 1/8th inch gap open around the handle that just cant be made to seal properly. It's overall quality is adequate however i would not trust it to be my traveling case with the airlines. This is why I say consider carefully because this is not a rugged case and if you need a case for traveling especially where your guns will be handled by others you do not want to chance it with this case. All said for the money it still cant be beat at any of my local gun shops where hard shell cases start at $60 and are way overbuilt for what my needs are. It holds the gun and I don't scare the neighbors when i load up the car to go shoot.

Good product for a fair price,

I have read tons of reviews on Amazon when deciding on a product and I think now its my turn to pitch in.
I just got this Plano gun case in the mail and i think it is great for the money. I was just looking for a hard case to protect my O/U when it wasn't in the safe and this fits the bill. Sure you can get a nicer aluminum model, but it will cost you 3-4 times the money for the same purpose. I will however say that although they state it is airline approved I would buy a better case if I was taking my gun somewhere. Since I am only going to the range 10 miles away this case is a good buy.

Not so impressed with this case. Once you place your shotgun in it (20 ga), it does not close properly leaving sizable gap for air & elements in. It has nothing to do with the foam/shotgun, it's the plastic model of the case itself that does not fit properly.
I went for a less expensive case because the airlines treat all cases the same.

cheap,
This review is from: Plano Pillared Take Down Gun Case (Sports)
Very cheaply made. If I had a chance to look at one before purchasing, would not have ordered. Very small inside, and latches pop off when trying to close on a shotgun. Now that I have it I'm stuck with it. "Get what you pay for' is true.

I bought this to store my over/under shotgun. It does the job fine for an inexpensive case. You might want something more deluxe if you're storing a $5,000 gun.

Not Very Useful,

Bought this case as the new model for replacing/needing another Field Locker brand case for my new GSG-5 carbine and is not useful wihout modifications. It has plastic latches, two more than the old model but not steel. It also has a pillar that prohibits you from putting any complete collapsible stocked rifle in plus has a couple tray slots of sorts near the molded in handle that limits the use further.I removed the pillar in the center from each side and patched it over from inside to be able to use it for my purpose plus trimmed some of the edges that it closes to custom fit and use for my rifle.
It is advertised as a take down shotgun case but ought to be useful for others,I use one for my Colt AR M4 with collapisble stock and nicely fits it with half a dozen 20 round mags.I ended up looking on the net and buying two other Fieldlocker cases for arrows at $20 each same size like my old one that was sold as a takedown gun case and bought my own foam for them.It is a poor thought out design that has limited use and could have been updated just by adding two end latches or maybe a middle added small snap like the economy Plano cases used to have,do not purchase unless for a take down rifle or shotgun as that is all it is good for |
