Excellent bargain hard case,

I had to move some shotguns and rifles from a gun safe to another storage location for a period of time and was looking for an inexpensive hard case and this definitely solved the problem. I originally bought one to make sure it was sturdy enough and I have since purchased three more I liked it so much.
The foam inserts are nice and thick, however the external case is a bit thin. For basic storage and personal transport, this is an excellent case. However, I would not recommend it for shipping or air travel. I don't believe the case would adequately protect guns with much weight applied to the broad sides. Also, with much pressure applied, the latches sometimes pop off. Fortunately, they are designed for this and easily reattach rather than break like some other plastic cases. In short, four stars for price and providing the limited functionality I needed. If you want a shipping or heavy duty travel case, invest more to protect your expensive firearms.

I purchased this case in order to protect my Mossberg 500 combo shotgun. The case comfortable fits both my scoped gun and its extra barrel, there would be plenty of room for two full guns.
The case itself is made out of fairly flimsy plastic. Each half of the unclosed case is pretty flexible. However, once you close the case and clamp all four clasps, the case becomes fairly rigid. The foam in the case is not of the highest quality, but is serviceable. It is not glued/adhered to the top and bottom of the case so it can be removed and occasionally falls out (this can be remedied with a couple of drops of glue). The case is also lockable which is a handy feature if you want to use it for home storage instead of buying an expensive gun safe. In summary: I bought this case to use as storage for my shotgun at home and when transporting it in a car (I would not feel comfortable taking it on an airplane). It performs this task reasonably well and is a fairly good value. If you need a basic gun case, then I would recommend it. If you have expensive rifles and need a rugged, plane sturdy case then i would go elsewhere.

Not great for bolt action rifles,

I have a bolt action airsoft rifle, and this thing is perfect length for it, but the cocking bolt protrudes and makes this case pretty difficult to get close, and often the latches pop off. (Which is better than them breaking) But the case feels very flimsy when open. It's fine for my air soft gun, but I don't I would feel comfortable putting a real fire arm in this thing. And I really can't imagine getting two rifles in this thing with scopes on them. It'd either be real tight, and I'd worry about damaging the scopes, or they just plain wouldn't fit. So if you're looking for something cheap to just get the basic job done, this will work, but if you're looking for a quality case you'll have for a long time, look elsewhere.

Bought this case for transporting rifle with scope and mossberg with scope. Sadly it does not carry both unless I remove the scopes. This is a pain for my purposes as it requires extra steps to get the weapons ready. Turns out I can only carry one rifle with scope plus a sidearm in the case. I picked up a second single case for the mossberg.

Clasps are ok but the two sides meet somewhat unevenly. Fine for under-the-bed storage but lacks the ruggedness that might be necessary for travel. Overall, pretty cheaply made but, again, for the price that might not be a huge concern.

I wanted this for my .22 Marlin Model 60 and my 12 gauge pump to store under the bed and carry when I shoot them. I placed the 22 at the top and the 12 gauge near the bottom, when I held the case by the handle and shook the case both guns remained in place.
I was debating on getting the Plano Protector Single Rifle/Shotgun Case for my 22, but for $10 more I purchased this because of the higher rating. I am thrilled with the price and free shipping from amazon.

Plano double case is well built and sturdy. Perfect for transporting rifles to and from the range. Will fit two non-scoped rifles comfortably. Lockable with positive lock snaps make security concerns a non-issue. Another well-priced item from Amazon.

I would not trust my precision rifles with it. It is not intended to be used on an airline. The foam was not that great. If your intent is to take your rifles to the range or to store from dust you will be happy.

Exceptional value for the price,

This isn't the most secure, or roomy, case around. But for the price its impossible to beat. It will do what it claims - at a price thats tough to beat.I've had mine (which I actually purchased at Dicks Sporting Goods) about 4 years. I still have a single gun case, which is much sturdier, but after running into a gun malfunction on a South Dakota pheasant hunt I went looking quickly for an affordable case to carry along a spare. Dicks had these (I don't think Amazon sold them at the time) and I picked one up. Its worked exceptionally over the last 4 years for domestic travel (I fly with it on at least 4 trips a year - one year I took it on 5). I secure it with 3 matched key masterlock padlocks which I purchased separately. Here's the problems I've noticed with it. First, while its padded, the plastic shell itself isn't thick and if hit at the right angle can crack or chip. On my last trip (2 weeks ago) to South Dakota, I actually had a decent sized divot taken out of the case. Whatever hit it at that point also dented the sight rib on the barrell of my pump shotgun (which was the spare, not my more expensive shotgun). That is a serious problem. Second, the latches aren't very sturdy or secure. At all. This isn't a major problem - as far as people getting in the case - if you have locked it. However, if you have smaller items stored in the case in addition to guns (like a knife, chokes for shotguns, etc) they could fall out of the case. Third, the hings in the back are pretty weak and held together by what are essential not more than 8 inch long pieces of wire clothes hanger. However, while a super vulnerable weak point, on my case they haven't broken in 3 or 4 years of hard use. On my last trip, one started to move out, but I was able to manner it back in. Those are the three big vulnerabilities on the case. None of them, of course, are deal breakers. Nor have they actually failed in any significant way. And while I wouldn't trust this case on a travel to Africa or other exotic locals, for domestic travel its sure better than spending $200 on a case that's not going to do a much better job protecting your firearms. |
