1.0 out of 5 stars Not pleased.
The plans seem simple enough, however I was not aware of the final costs involved in the project.
I will probably build the machine in the future.

These plans are great and easy to understand and follow, but the most amazing aspect of all is the customer service! It is unparalleled! In addition to the plans, they also carry just about any part you need to make the grinder if you can't source it/them locally. I understand there are many folks who actually weld up the grinder...so it works either way. It really is a breakthrough though for those who do not weld or have lots of fancy tools and equipment to build. All that being said, this belt grinder/sander is compatible with many of the big name commercial products. It can go toe to toe with them in power, reliability and accuracy. It can also use their accessories. It performs like a champ!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Built 4 of them!, February 15, 2009
This review is from: Plans Set for No Weld Grinder 2"x72" Belt Abrasive (Misc.)
The plans are very good! I have built 4 of the grinders from these plans and the grinders all work just fine. I use them to grind straight razors and knives. If you use the 3 step pulleys you will obtain a very nice range of speeds.
They plans do not require a mill or a lathe or any expensive tools. If you can use a tape measure and drill holes you will do fine.
The grinders would also be very good for woodworking or plastics. The grinding/sanding belts are standard 2"x72"
. The plans include instructions to build a flat platten and a workrest.

A lot of thought has been put into the plans. They work.

Very cool DIY,well worth the modest price for the plans.Just be sure and do your homework. This can produce a pro-quality 2x72 belt grinder and will cost what your willing to put into it.I would recommend first pricing brand name complete units first. (to understand what you can save).Me and my brother are currently building 2 and welding most of the bracket areas ,well, because we can.Sure you will need some tools and materials are not free but that is obvious if you just do your research and know what you are getting into.Google away and you will see some real neat mods and tweaks some people have done with these plans. In all, nice job sir.

5.0 out of 5 stars Want a Knife Grinder/Sander - Don't Buy, Build it Yourself!, February 5, 2012

This review is from: Plans Set for No Weld Grinder 2"x72" Belt Abrasive (Misc.)
I got deeper into the hobby of knife making with the purchase of a Grizzly G1015 used on Ebay for $152 delivered to my front door. I liked the Grizzly and still do. However my skills went way past that tool. I needed a different style of grinder. Are you thinking of buying a knife grinder to make knives? Don't! Build it yourself.

I have now built 3 of these grinders. Simple to build. You can buy the parts as you go over a few months if you need to. I chose to weld my grinder frame. What I have made is ever bit as solid as the grinder it is based on!

Buy these plans and build your own grinder. You would be crazy not to.....
