Editorial Reviews

Review
“This book would be an excellent resource for undergraduate or graduate courses in plant anatomy and plant biology, and a valuable reference for researchers and postgraduates. Summing Up: Highly recommended.” (CHOICE, February 2009)

"This book and CD should be seen as a major resource by teachers in this field and a definite reference item in their teaching." (Ecological & Environmental Education, 2008)

Plant anatomy is a foundational and ever-advancing topic. This book by plant anatomy experts Cutler (honorary research fellow, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, and president, Linnean Society of London, UK), Botha (Rhodes Univ., Grahamstown, South Africa), and Stevenson (curator and vice president for botanical science, New York Botanical Garden) give an up-to-date and concise treatment of the subject. The work covers classic subjects including morphology, tissue systems, meristems, transport systems, organs, and reproductive structures. Additional chapters address adaptive and applied aspects of plant anatomy, as well as practical microtechnique. A glossary with pictures provides a quick reference guide for terms. Two appendixes are included: one detailing a broad range of species that is useful for study material and another on practical exercises that can be done with the accompanying CD-ROM. The numerous images and exercises on the CD-ROM will help students acquire an in-depth understanding of the subject. This book would be an excellent resource for undergraduate or graduate courses in plant anatomy and plant biology, and a valuable reference for researchers and postgraduates. Summing Up: Highly recommended. All undergraduates, graduate students, and professionals. –R. B. Pratt, California State University–Bakersfield (Choice, February 2009)

"The book is very attractively priced, benefits from many excellent colour images ... Plant anatomy: an applied approach deserves to do well!" (Annals of Botany)

"What makes the text stand out is the accompanying CD." (Ecological and Environmental Education)

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointment, November 1, 2008
When I bough Plant Anatomy - an applied approach I expected to buy a more dynamic, updated view of plant anatomy within an updated and applied context. Unfortunately, the book is totally descriptive, extremely superficial, practically without real picture of plant tissues and organs, and with more than a few errors. The errors range from outdated plant names to anatomical errors (!) Furthermore, the book has no citations and not a mention on all the genes acting during plant development that are alread known. I should also warn Mac users that the CD that comes with the book is not directely compatible with our computers.
Want an advice? Pay more and buy F. Evert's Esaus'Plant Anatomy for an effective and thorough book on plant anatomy.
