Grade 4-6-- Plant-eating dinosaurs deserve some time in the spotlight, but this book fails to capture their diversity. The presentation is methodical and uninspiring, like a teacher's overly long monologue. The colored-pencil illustrations are acceptable, but many of the dinosaurs seem surrounded by too much white space. What's worse, the pacing doesn't work. Diagrams meant to explicate the text become confusing or useless when they appear two or three pages after the subject is mentioned. While no book covers exactly the same creatures mentioned here, libraries with a healthy collection of dinosaur books could certainly pass this one by. Lauber's The News about Dinosaurs (Bradbury, 1989) and Simon's The Largest Dinosaurs (Macmillan, 1986) cover similiar subjects better. --Cathryn A. Camper, Minneapolis Pub . Lib . :
