Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

This companion to Pruning (above) boasts equally intelligent organization, a quickly grasped text and expert drawings, with relevant parts colored here in red. In his introduction, garden writer Browse explains the logic behind plant propagation and assures readers a green thumb is not necessary for the task. Following the glossary, the author presents detailed directions for success in germinating seeds, layering, grafting and other methods as well as variations on the principle. There is coverage of virtually all steps involved from selecting equipment (such as a workbench of comfortable height) and fighting insects and diseases to caring for plants through development. Gardeners will find numerous suggestions for propagating flowers, berries, fruits, ornamental shrubs and trees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Beginners, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Plant Propagation (RHS Encyclopedia of Practical Gardening) (Paperback)
This is an excellent propagation book. The propagation methods include step-by-step drawings and some suggested plant material. I use it for the greenhouse I just started running. This book shows you everything from scoring and sowing seed, cutting techniques, layering methods, grafting techniques, plus more. It also includes instruction on how to propagate shrubs and trees. I would recommend it as a great resource even for the more advanced.

5.0 out of 5 stars Propagation from a different angle, December 9, 2009

This review is from: Plant Propagation (RHS Encyclopedia of Practical Gardening) (Paperback)
Several books are available on this subject and most are not very helpful beyond the most elementary. This book is very detailed and has many drawings showing each move. It is easy for the novice and yet being a British publication has several approaches to problems not found in most American books on the subject. Not a glossy book with colored garden views, but a very practical reference on the art of plant propagation.

I had to purchase this book as an additional resource for plant propogation, but use it more than my text. If you enjoy gardening and propagating this is a great reference.
