from the opening bars of "hugo (the elephant)", with it's cheezy organ intro, it's clear that this is no ordinary rock outing. bursting with idea's, this set of dreamy soundscapes and quirky rock-n-roll tunes should have you hitting the repeat button, as continued listens reap sonic rewards.
standout tracks include "get well card", a subdued charmer with a sinister underbelly, and the existential rocker "taste the water", with it's hopeful refrain "time will take care of everything".
from the middle-eastern sounding instrumental "vuscalli", to the sparsly-worded epic "you're the one", this is a record that will grow on you, get under your skin, and remind you how a really good band can be sad/funny/noisy/beautiful all at the same time.

Dangerously, dangerously catchy stuff. Humbert is a band that can be sweet and melodic, do the rock thing, and quirk out without sounding forced, trite, contrived or sterile. Why these guys seem to be a southeastern US phenomenon is beyond me.

The songs stand up with the best of all time.

"Plant The Trees Closer Together" is collection of swirling guitars and keyboards. It's different and sometimes goofy, and it's a blast to listen to. Influences to our ears would be bands like High Llamas, XTC, Arlo and Magical Mystery Tour-period Beatles.
