Product Description

PLANTERS began as a vision in the mind of a young Italian Immigrant named Amedeo Obici.

Little did he know that the small business he began in 1906 would grow into the world's grandest nut company. We have built our reputation and a powerful brand by offering superior quality and product innovation.

American favorite for over 100 years.

PLANTERS has been an American favorite for over 100 years. Whether you love PLANTERS Peanuts for their delicious peanut taste or their satisfying crunch, there’s a variety just for you.

All about the Peanut

Although its name implies it is a nut, peanuts are not true nuts but, instead, a member of a family of legumes related to peas, lentils, chickpeas and other beans. Peanuts start growing as a flower, but, because of their heavy weight after pollination, they bend toward and eventually go underground where the peanut matures. Although peanuts come in many varieties, there are four main types with specific size, taste and nutrient make-up; they include Runners, Virginia, Spanish and Valencia. Runners have become extremely popular because of their high yield. More than half of these peanuts are used for peanut butter. Virginias have the largest kernels and are typically the peanuts you find roasted in the shell or in snack bags. Spanish-type peanuts have smaller kernels and higher oil content than other types of peanuts and are covered with a reddish-brown skin. They are used mostly in peanut candies, some snack nuts and peanut butter. Valencias are a very sweet "nut" with three or more small kernels to a pod and are covered in a bright-red skin. They are usually roasted or boiled and sold in-the-shell.

So many nuts, so little time.

A Healthy Handful of Peanuts
  • Protein helps keep you satisfied. And peanuts—which are not actually nuts but, like peas and beans, are legumes—have seven grams of protein per one–ounce serving.
  • Fiber - Peanuts are a good source of dietary fiber, which can help keep you feeling full longer and can aid digestion. Not too many snacks contain fiber!
  • Niacin is a B vitamin that the body uses to convert food into energy. A one–ounce serving of peanuts delivers about 15% of the niacin you need each day.
  • Vitamin E - A one–ounce serving of peanuts delivers a good source of Vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps you protect cells from damage.
  • Resveratrol - This plant compound with antioxidant properties is found in peanuts (especially high in peanut skins) as well as grapes. Many scientific studies are looking at its health benefits.
  • “Good” Fats - Experts recommend limiting the intake of foods high in saturated fat and replacing them with foods high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated–“good”—fats. And 80% of the fat in peanuts comprise the “good” fats.

Great tasting salted cashews!
Archie77
Definitely a good deal, these cashews are delicious and have more big pieces than the smaller tins you find in the grocery store.
Jocelyn Patterson
These are a very good value for money and very satisfying taste.

I had been buying whole fancy cashews for a bit more money. My kids love them and they disappear at an alarming rate. I got to thinking; do the whole cashews taste any different? No they do not.

So... If they are just going to be eaten anyway, why not save the extra cost?

So now I get the larger and less expensive can of halves and pieces, and guess what?
No one is complaining!

These are a very good value for money and very satisfying taste. A quite sizable container, but it does keep them fresh. Taste is very good, crispy, only very light salt, very minimal oil. Though these are labeled as halves and pieces there are a number of whole cashews. Overall very satisfied and will reorder.

These are generally fresh tasting out of the tin, and they keep well enough, though they mightn't be spectacular. They were a fantastic deal when I subscribed them about a year ago, but suddenly they have jumped to the point where they have nearly doubled in price. It's time to jump ship on this deal.

These are delicious, fresh and tasty! My kids love 'em and so do I. I was surprised as my cans are mostly full halves and some nearly whole nuts with only some "bits and pieces" -- much better quality than I expected. The first can was gone in three-four days! A big hit at my house. So you may eat more than you would otherwise, with so large a supply...keep that in mind. ;)

A great deal - much cheaper per ounce than the smaller sizes.

2012-07-07 update: Have purchased multiple times and quality has remained good.

2013-05-13 Ditto.

I purchased this product before, and it was perfect: lots of halves, not too salty, not very greasy.

This time however, I decided to stock up and purchased 5 "2-tin" packages when it had a good price.

Turned out to be super greasy. There was so much disgusting oil that I had to use paper towel to drain it every
time I wanted to eat.

Overall, I would say the inconsistent quality deserves a one so they can improve.

Cashews, and most nuts in general, are not that cheap. Comparing this to say Kirkland brand cashews shows that this provides a huge savings. I do not feel that they are too salty and the only minor issue I see is that there are some little tiny pieces to go along with the halves. This is not even really a problem as it is stated on the container that this is halves and pieces. I will be ordering this again.

I love cashews and the price is great. The flavor was okay-not great but okay for the price & quantity.
I have the subscription but I am considering cancelling it.

The cashew halves and pieces are really good. Yes, they do seem to have a bit more salt than the whole cashews. A little shake / sift takes care of that. I'm ordering some more.
