Great Sounding, Comfortable and Affordable Headset,
By "paulusw" (St Andrew Jamaica) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plantronics Audio 90 Multimedia Stereo PC Headset (Personal Computers)
I am truly impressed with this headset. It fits the head snugly and not too tight. It has a reasonable weight, not too heavy and the adjustable mic (for length) works very well. I can't comment on how I sound :-) but the good clarity of the mic during internet telephony was commented on. The headphones sound quite good, large 40mm drivers do bring out the bass very well. The mids and highs are all clean, without distortion. The unit is constructed of good quality plastic with the mic on a swivel joint on the left earpiece. The swivelling joint is stiff and has not yet become loose :-). Time will tell though. The padded earpieces are covered with a nice airy cloth material, and it is very comfortable when worh for long durations. The headband is fairly easy to adjust and once adjusted doesn't slip. All in all this a really nice headset. I use mine for internet telephony and it works a charm. Constructed well, sounds excellent, good adjustability with volume control and mic mute on the cord. There is also a neat little lapel clip if you need to secure the cord and (controls) in place. A good buy ... get one.

Great Gaming Headset, Slight FLAW,
By C'racker Jak "gadgetxe" (Astoria, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plantronics Audio 90 Multimedia Stereo PC Headset (Personal Computers)
...This headset has everything the more [$$$] version has but a whole lot cheaper. I will state the pros and cons. PROS: CONS: Here is where the Slight Flaw comes from, the end of the wire has two leads, mic and sound. It is both connected and cannot be separated. The problem is for people who has speakers and an earphone out. It cannot be possible to plug the ear connector to the speakers and connect mic to the back of the comp. Its a slight prob but if you have a front panel with both sound and mic then you'll be fine.

Good sound but very poor build quality,

I bought this after doing much research for a headset to use on my computer with occasional voice-to-text use. The mic works really well (great for voice applications), although the moveable boom is more marketing hype as it only moves 1 inch with little effect. It is bendable which is good. Audio quality for games and music is very good. Bass response is also surprisingly sufficient. It can output very loud music/sounds without distortion, much better than smaller headsets or earplugs.
If you wear it for longer periods 1 hour+ you may find it hurts your ears. Also rebranded along the lines of Plantronics GAMECOM Digital Stereo PC Gaming Headset. Identical to the Audio .90 except for some extra printing and different packaging to compete with similar products from Logitech and others. Volume control works, but isn't very good quality as at max volume you may hear some noise during adjustment. There is also a built in mic mute switch which shows a red sticker when the mic off. There is also a small clip on the cable which you can adjust to clip to your shirt which keeps the volume control close to you or the cable away from your feet. I haven't really had a need to use it, but it does work. The plugs are gold plated and have colour coded rings for easy identification. BUT it is POOR QUALITY - the cable is long (great feature) but fairly thin. Cables on my previous cheapie US$10 Logitech headset were much better quality. After 3 months i noticed the left channel occasionally dropped out, then it permanently stopped working. I took it back to the shop and they took 3 weeks to get it replaced. Now 15 months later the left channel has stopped working agin! Now this seems like a trend :( I did some research with Google and i've seen stories of other Plantronics products having the same problem. When i jiggle the wire between the headset and the volume control the sound comes on and off. The weirdest thing is that the cable comes in the left speaker then gets routed to the right speaker via the headband. But the right channel works fine and the left does not. So I opened it up and found that they use a very small PCB to solder the wires together which is the weak spot. I ripped off all the wires, soldered the tips, twisted them together and resoldered them, such a waste of time but now it works again although the cover doesn't close properly. Also interesting that the warranty is only for 12 months. I'm unimpressed at paying US$50 for something of such poor manufacturing quality compared to $10 headphones which last much longer (the foam ear bits wore off my old Logitech after 3 years but it still worked fine). Recommend you try something else unless you're OK with replacing it after a year. I've seen it on sale as low as US$18! Open air-headphones are also great but leak much more sound to those around you than closed headphones.

I was satisfied with the sound quality and microphone fidelity, but the headset wasn't very comfortable. People who wear glasses should beware that the headset will press your ears against your head, catching the temple piece of your glasses in between (This happens regardless of how large you adjust the headset).I can wear the headset for about 20 minutes before the discomfort becomes too distracting.

I have to admit normally I don't really bother too much with all the review writing when it comes to items I purchase, but in this case I feel a good review is merited. I got this headset for about half of what I would've paid had I gone to my local computer store.
I checked at several stores in fact for this headset after seeing several good reviews and couldn't find it anywhere for less than $35. Of course that means with the tax, gas, et all, I would have been spreading around $40 for the same headset elsewhere, so I was very pleased to see it on Amazon with free shipping et all. I must admit I am impressed with the quality of the headset. I had a Plantronics head set before, that I also paid about $30 for about two years ago that I have been using pretty much constantly due to a disability have and the need for using speech recognition to type. Because I use my headset for just about everything from doing e-mail to doing my job, usually while listening to CDs, I must admit I put considerable wear and tear on my headsets. I actually went through several of them until I finally got the Plantronics 40 set that I had been using. Except for a bit of tightness on my ears, which I never cared for, that headset held up very well to considerable daily use. The audio quality wasn't bad, and neither was the mike, so when the earpiece, finally broke, after such a long time I must admit I was pretty dismayed. I did my best MacGyver job, wiring the headset back on with a few garbage bag ties so that I could still use it in the meantime, but I also decided that it was time maybe to upgrade a little to a headset with some larger, more comfortable ear cups. Of course I looked at the Plantronics sets first, why wouldn't I after having such good results with the last set? But I also looked at other brands and read all the reviews there as well. After doing a considerable bit of reading, and checking out prices online I finally decided on this headset. What can I say except I am totally thrilled? This headset is far more comfortable than its predecessor, and the audio quality is just superb in terms of both listening to music and speech recognition. I am sitting here right now listening to a CD and voice typing and both are being done with minimal effort and great enjoyment on my part. This headset is a big improvement, even on the last one. Yup, I am definitely becoming a confirmed Plantronics fan! If this headset holds up half as well as its predecessor did, I will have absolutely no complaints! :) Morrighan

Extremely pleased and amazed,

Wow, just wow. The sound quality is unparalleled by anything. Music, games and everything in general sound real with this headset. The microphone is awesome as well, there are no snaps, crackles or pops when it records and it sounds almost exactly like my voice. At first sight, the headphone pads look as if they would be uncomfortable. However, if you put them on correctly, they are almost unnoticable and help greatly in keeping out ambient sound and keeping in the high quality audio. I strongly recommend that you buy this product if you're going to buy a headset of any sort. Unlike the DSP-500, there is no software required and you can use it for anything with the mini-plug jack. Great buy, thanks Amazon!

Great Price, Great Quality!,

These headphones are inexpensive, and high quality. You just plug them into your sound card, and bam, they work perfectly. Great sound, bass, and great for gaming. I would be playing games and could easily tell which direction my enemy was coming from! The microphone is crystal clear as well. You can adjust it however you want, they made it very customizable. They fit nicely as well, and are decently light. Overall a very comfortable fit. The only minor qualms I have with it are that when you are wearing them, they don't do a great job of blocking outside noises. Knowing that, it's no surprise that it does not hold the sound in well either. When someone is wearing them, and with the volume decently loud, it can be heard quite well by others. The microphone mute switch could be handy I guess, I haven't found a need for it. The volume controls are good, but I found the position of them slightly akward. Another thing is, when you turn them down all the way, you can still here the sound playing very quitely. However it does go up pretty high so no one should have complaints about that. As an added bonus they come with a one year warranty. Overall it is a very solid buy, especially for the low price. I highly recommend these to anyone and everyone.

Poorly Engineered,
By Jeremy (Columbus Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plantronics Audio 90 Multimedia Stereo PC Headset (Personal Computers)
I was a previous Plantronics customer, I had bought A nice set of USB DSP-500 from this site, They worked about year and half until the microphone cable got trapped inside the swivel for the mic boom and was shredded. An expensive headset that didnt last as long as I thought it should, but It was a great headset, and still is (except for the fact the mic does not work). So i decided to go with Plantronics again, and get the less expensive audio .90s. BIG MISTAKE. I thought 30 bucks for a year and a half would be ok, Which it would have, but the managed to last a whole THREE WEEKS. The mic ground cable came detatched or seperated (I suspect in the Flawed design of the earpiece/mic boom) and now emits a horrible hum in the background rendering me barely audible through it. Plantronics, wants proof of purchase and for me to send it back for them before I get a new headset. I dont want to go without my headset, because they cant design a decent consumer grade pair of headphones. I wouldnt waste my money with Plantronics, save your money and by some senheisser or go real cheap and buy a 10 dollar wal-mart pair. I am through with Plantronics.
