Good product, why so high priced?,

I got this product but ended up sending it back and getting the CT10. It's a very good product but my question is: why do they charge twice as much for a system that seems to have the same functionality as the CT10, except that it can't operate as a phone? The CT10 is everything the CS10 is except that you get a complete phone that allows you to dial from the mobile pad and such (much better for voicemail and other things that require automated menus). I just don't get it.

I can't say enough good things about Plantronics. Have 2 CS10's. One from Amazon and one from elsewhere. When A small plastic tab that holds the battery in place broke I was sure I was going to have to purchase another unit, or pay to have it repaired. A call to plantronics revealed how customer service should be. Even though the unit was not under warrenty, they shipped me an advance replacement unit free of charge. All that I required was the remote unit and they accidently sent me the whole product. For this 'inconvienience' about a week later I recieved a complementary remote unit. Bravo

it's not a phone,
This review is from: Plantronics CS10 Cordless Telephone Headset System (Office Product)
Call me clueless, but I didn't realize this is a telephone accessory, not a phone. I hope the folks at amazon can update the product description to make it easier for folks like me to figure this out. Meanwhile, I'm writing in case it helps someone else avoid ordering this device in error, as I did.

Surprisingly serious shortcomings,

I work on a helpdesk where our employer purchased a set of CS10s (along with a set of older-style lifters for which I cannot find a model number) to allow us to move freely about the office while taking support calls. While generally very functional, they exhibit a few *very* severe problems. We have gone through a total of nine of them without resolving these issues:
The units will, seemingly at random, produce incredibly loud feedback to both sides of the connection. This seems to be related to the phono jack on the remote unit, but also depends on physical location (some areas experience this more frequently than others; so far, air conditioning seems a likely cause). The units will periodically bleed across channels. Changing channel on the remote unit or range on the base unit does not affect this -- you will be treated to static and the combined calls of all other units in the area, typically until you replace the remote unit (although the remote units appear to correct themselves after time). They also exhibit frustratingly poor lifter response (even after replacing our older lifters with HL10s). This appears to be a duplexing problem; when placing an outgoing call, the lifter responds fine, but if a call is being received, then the signal used to ring the remote unit (even if ringing is turned off) appears to block the lift signal, not only failing to answer the call but also preventing you from using the Talk button for 5-10 seconds afterward. When this happens multiple times in a row, it becomes entirely impossible to answer the phone at all. I am very surprised to read so many favorable reviews. After having replaced every single unit at least once, we still find them to be barely adequate for our operations. I do not believe that we have received defective units every single time, nor that our environment is unusual in how we use them. I recommend all potential buyers approach this product with caution.

I home office and needed the ability to write orders, check files etc. while talking with clients. The CS-10 works extremely well and the callers have no idea I am using a headset. The incoming and outgoing quality is great! I would recommend the phone lifter for remote answering. I tried two other cheaper products that were poor quality and either sounded like I was talking into a bucket or were "distant" sounding. This was the best price anywhere ... although it has increased in price recently.

The CS10 is certainly everything a cordless headset should be: small, lightweight and well-designed. However, I'm now on my third unit in as many months, and it, too, just died. Evidently the belt pack and the base station "forget" how to communicate with each other over time.Too bad...Plantronics has always been *the* name is business phone accessories, but I'm afraid it's time to go hunting for a replacement.

Excellent Headset, Saved My Neck (Literally),

I have had this headset for over 3 months now and I am extremely pleased with it. The clarity is a perfect 10 -- people that I am talking to cannot tell whether I am on the regular phone or the CS10.I have used the original Hello Direct cordless headset for a few years. People often complained that they couldn't hear me well and asked me to speak louder. I often ended up switching to the regular phone. So I retired that headset and bought a GN Netcom 9020D. The clarity was as good as the CS10, but I would hear an echo of myself. I called Hello Direct and bought another 4-line telephone that they claimed was compatible, but the echo remained. So I finally bought the CS10. I almost did not because of some of the negative reviews here on Amazon.com, especially in regards to Plantronics' service should something go wrong, but pain was starting to creap back into my neck and I had little choice but to at least try. I have been very pleased with this headset and I highly recommend it. Setup was far more straightforward than with the earlier headsets that I owned: I didn't have to change any of the default switch settings. There is, of course, room for improvement. One thing that I always liked about the Hello Direct and the GN Netcom headsets was that the transmitter was mounted on the headset itself. I wish Plantronics would revise the CS10 to make the headset an all-in-one unit instead of having the transmitter as a separate unit linked with a cord. Or at least include a holder or holster where one can tuck away the transmitter (this should not be a separate purchase, IMHO).

I was very excited to have this product. It was exactly what I needed for my small home business--taking notes while chatting with customers, and no neck problems. Unfortunately, my brand new model was defective and didn't work from Day 1. Rather than return the whole thing, I tried to work with Plantronics to receive a replacement for a defective part, and that has not gone well at all. They sent a replacement for the part that works. They neglected to include the part that is defective. I am sorry for this state of affairs, because at a previous employer I had a Plantronics set that worked well. But now I have spent a ridiculous amount of time and energy to get this solved, and it seems the only option left if a complete return.

The CS10 is my first and only experience with a headset of any kind. Hadn't even tried one out before. I picked this brand as they seem to have a lot of name recognition. I picked this particular model (cordless remote) so I didn't have to be "tethered" to the phone. The instructions to get set up and started were very easy to follow. The quality of the product is excellent. It has been very liberating not to have to pick up the phone handset every time the phone rings and also not to be cradling the handset between my ear and shoulder. I did some research on prices and Amazon's price was the lowest I could find....combine that with their free shipping on orders over [money] it was an excellent deal. If you buy this model you really need to buy the HL10 handset lifter. My only regret is that Amazon didn't have any in stock and I had to purchase from another vendor. In a business setting the CS10 is an excellent choice!

With this headset, my receptionist can walk around the office to find me when someone calls. She can file records and make photocopies while on hold with insurance companies. Only drawback is that in order to answer calls while wearing this device, another accessory was necessary for about 75 dollars.
