I can't say enough about this headset! Since I first purchased a BlueTooth cellphone I have been through 6 different headsets. For one reason or another each had either been returned within a week, or ended up in a drawer. This headset is just perfect. I can't think of a negative thing to say about it. It is the most comfortable, the battery life is good, the sound quality is the best I have had, and with all of the attachments Plantronics has added it gives this headset adaptability that I had never even thought of but really use! Of the 6 Bluetooth headsets I have owned the highest rating I could give any of them except this one would be 3 stars, but this one deserves 10!

As for the comments of others that the headset does not fit snuggly into the charger, it is NOT meant to! It is meant to slide into the charger so that it charges while just resting in the tube! This way you do not have to worry about whether it has made a good connection or not. If it is in the tube it is connected and charging. I would suggest caution if you place the pocket-clip charging tube a shirt pocket if you bend over a lot, but to remedy this just place it in your pants pocket instead. It vibrates if you get a call while in the charging tube, so you'll be alerted either way, and it goes in your ear so fast and comfortably this is not an issue when you are alerted to a call while it is in your pants pocket. IF the headset is in the charging tube you can be assured that it is charging, and don't have to worry about whether it has properly connected inside. Besides, how many other headsets are there that come with an accessory that lets you use a AAA battery to charge it in a charging tube while away from an electrical source? None that I am aware of. You don't even get this "option" with any other product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Setting the record straight, December 27, 2006
By

This review is from: Plantronics Discovery 645 DSP Ultimate Bluetooth® Headset with DSP for all Bluetooth Enabled Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I like to read customer reviews online when considering purchases, but I rarely write any. In this case I feel that the record needs to be set straight because several of the reviews on this product are grossly inaccurate and may cause people not to buy a very good product.
My brother has one of these and he highly recommended it. He has had ZERO problems using it. I decided to buy one but wanted to check it out first so I read the reviews and was puzzled. I know how particular he is about gadgets. I decided the safe move was to buy this item at a brick & mortar store even though it would cost much more, based on the fact that some of the reviews indicated problems with the portable charging cradle and fit of the earpiece. I figured it would be easier to return locally if indeed that was the case. I can tell you from my experience that it is not. The earpiece fits securely into the charger and does not need to be scotch-taped or constantly held in place in any way. For the life of me I can't figure out how people are having that problem. I can only guess that they either didn't push it into the charger all the way or they have other issues. It takes no effort and it fits into the charger very well. The sound is very clear, and the ear gels seal your ear so the volume is actually very high and I had to turn mine down. I have asked people who I was talking to if they could tell I was on a headset, and they did not know. It is very lightweight and fits snug in your ear and is very comfortable. One big bonus that needs to be mentioned if that it fits so snugly that it doesn't need the ear loop, so if you wear glasses or sunglasses, this headset does not interfere with them like most of the other ones. It worked so well that I felt I had to do two things: write this review, and then buy another one from Amazon at a greatly reduced price, then take the other one back to the brick & mortar store & save myself the difference. If the reviews had been accurate I would have bought it from Amazon in the first place and saved a lot of trouble.

It is a gorgeous design exercise, but not a great headset. This headset comes with a huge array of accessories in a nice presentation case. The sound quality is middle of the field and inferior to far less expensive headsets.

The headset is designed to hang in one's ear, which it may or may not depending on your head. If not, it comes with an uncomfortable wire loop that doesn't match the sleek appearance of the headset.

The charge it anywhere collection of adapters and the clever charging tube is impressive, but I'd rather have a decent battery and a standard USB Mini-B charging cable (why just about every headset has a connector that is -almost- a USB Mini-b cable but requires a special USB cable, as do most digital cameras, seems insanely stupid to me).

This is a stylish and compact headset, but the the compactness is somewhat compromised by the fragile in-ear silicone pad which doesn't last a few pocketings. The fountain-pen styled charging tube/carrying case is attractive and clever, but the silicone nobule pokes out on the same side as the pocket clip, pretty much insuring it's eventual dispersal during insertion or extraction from the tube.

4.0 out of 5 stars If they could only fix the carrier, September 9, 2006

Have been using the headset for a little over a month now and like it for the most part. I use it with a Treo 650, and aside from normal Bluetooth issues like device pairing issues (very rare), occasional static caused from radio interference, etc., it has done rather well. I really like the weight and comfort. I have done 2hr+ conference calls with no ear discomfort at all (although I immediately had to charge the headset after that...). Speech quality according to the people I talk to a lot is much better than before (Palm Treo Wireless headset was my old model).

I bought the extra Palm charger adapter so I can charge the headset with both USB and Palm chargers. The ability to do an emergency recharge with an AAA battery is also a large plus.

My only complaint is the design of the charger/carrier. It seems that I have to jam the headset into the charger/carrier with a lot of force, and any movement whatsoever causes the headset to seperate from the carrier. This isn't that much of an issue most times, as I will charge the headset overnight when there isn't any movement on my desk. But in the case where I have to do a during-the-day recharge, I have to check every so often to make sure the headset is still charging. Another minor complaint is that the owner's manual isn't accurate with respect to the description of the light flash sequencing. The chart in the manual either is wrong, or I don't know how to read it. Either way, it is confusing.

I would have given 5 stars if the charger/carrier combo was better designed. But given my usage, it more an annoyance than a critical design flaw.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing is perfect!!, August 8, 2006
This review is from: Plantronics Discovery 645 DSP Ultimate Bluetooth® Headset with DSP for all Bluetooth Enabled Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
Everyone is right -- the headset doesn't fit snugly into the charger. Even when I tried to push the headset into the charger really firmly, it still pops out of the charger. This was very disappointing and distressing to me. For such a sleekly-designed product, the charger is the worst design I've ever seen. I have to put a lot of effort into positioning the headset into the charger in just the perfect position so that it gets charged but doesn't pop out of the charger. It's more work than I wanted. But everything else is great -- sound quality, the DSP function, etc. Overall, it's a very sexy design and when people see the headset and the awesome carrying case with all the components, they'll be jealous of you. I guess nothing is perfect.

1.0 out of 5 stars Charger design spoils a good headset, October 17, 2006

I'm a headset gadget nut, so I bought into the Discovery 640-series as soon as it came out. Plantronincs apparently cannot get it through their heads that the Discovery 640 series charger design is irreparably flawed. I spoke to a corporate rep just about an hour ago on the status of this, but all she would say is that their company acknowledges some "difficulties with early releases" of this product. Yet Plantronincs continues to use the same flawed charger design. As MANY frustrated users have noted, the headset does not stay well connected inside the slipcase-style charger/case. Like others, I've tried tape, rubber bands, and everything I can think of, but to no avail. I plug it in, see the red charging light, but when I come back 10 or more minutes later the light is out (if the charge were complete it would turn blue) and I have to jiggle it to get it to keep charging.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfectly Flawless, December 3, 2006

I must have a new redesigned model. I purchased mine 2006.
The headset fits snugly into the charger receptacle and will not fall out nor shake free. When the unit is properly placed in the charger and in charging mode..the unit glows red and vibrates for a second, advising that it is in properly and it is charging. There is no mystery..PERIOD.
Make sure the headset is fully charged before pairing.
It is very small and extremely lightweight..comes with a first class aluminum color case..charger..a very nice aaa battery adaptor charging system that you may keep with you all day..keeping a fresh charge all day..adaptors for alternative charging devices..3 sizes of ear inserts and an optional over the back of the ear safety loop that is very discrete.... if you want extra assurance it is staying with you because it it so light. Use caution not to lose the device, it is so light that you may not know it is there.
Great for voice activation and clear sound. To top that off..the Amazon price makes the Plantronics 645 a World Class Device.
My review is my opinion of the Plantronics 645 as an owner and not a recommendation.
Good Luck to everyone!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Bluetooth Headset ever, January 28, 2009
I was looking for a good Bluetooth headset and I had been told time and again that the Plantronics Discovery series was a good safe bet to look for. Once I heard about how the better ones had DSP (the Digital Signal Processing that allows perfect digital crystal clear reception) I had to get this. After all the more expensive, the better it is... right?

Once I got this, and plugged it in, I was convinced. It did feel strange to plug the phone directly into me, I found it was an amazing experience. Every phone call felt like it was made directly in my head.

I will suggest this to all my friends and family.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not worth it, June 28, 2006
By
This review is from: Plantronics Discovery 645 DSP Ultimate Bluetooth® Headset with DSP for all Bluetooth Enabled Phones (Wireless Phone Accessory)
First of all, the listing here is inaccurate. The 645 does not have multipoint. The only plantronics headset to feature multipoint is the 510.

Additionally, the holster is terrible. Assuming the holster will work to hold the headset will pretty much guarantee you will lose it.

Sound quality is fine, however there is a significant delay between when the phone starts dialing and when the headset picks up. Same goes for answering calls.

It's also extremely easy to accidentally trigger the auto-redial button.

The only positive feature of the 645 is that it's comfortable, however certainly not enough so to merit the pricetag.

All told, I would steer clear of this. Not worth the cost. If you're looking for a high end headset, I would suggest the Jabra JX10. I have one of those as well and am much happier with it.

Best bluetooth earpiece I've come across so far. Lightweight, comfortable for several hours a day, and good to excellent reception. Ocasionally someone tells me I sound like I'm "talking on a cellphone"...meaning not perfectly clear like a land line. So who cares...you get hands-free! Battery life is good...keeps going all day without needing a charge till the evening. It comes with several adapters for charging options. Also 3 sizes of earbuds. As I use a Blackberry 8700, this device is perfect.
