5.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable for long periods of use
I've owned and used a Mirage headset for over a decade. Other than the cable simply wearing out through use and abuse, I've had no problems. I originally got this when I was spending 6-8 hours a day on the phone. This was the unit recommended to me, and I found it to be exactly as described. 3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful but so so
I read lots of great reviews of this product and needed a headset due to back and neck problems. Plantronics customer service is poor, making it difficult to learn that I needed not just the voice tube, but also an A10 connector to attach it to the phone. We could not get the headset to work at first and I was told by Plantronics I also needed an amplifier (another $80)...

I've owned and used a Mirage headset for over a decade. Other than the cable simply wearing out through use and abuse, I've had no problems. I originally got this when I was spending 6-8 hours a day on the phone. This was the unit recommended to me, and I found it to be exactly as described. It's comfortable enough that I find myself wearing it for hours on end, even when I'm not on the phone anymore. I've never had problems with volume or clarity, nor have others on the other end.

As with most professional headsets, this uses a special plug, so you can't connect it with just any phone. Most phones will require the use of an adapter cable or an amplifier. The plug allows you to disconnect the headset (say to get something off the printer or fax machine) without disconnecting the call - it's the equivalent of putting the phone on mute. While this may not seem like much, it's much more convenient than taking the headset off and then putting it back on.

It works well with any of the Plantronics amplifiers, but its even more convenient if you find the phone-specific cord that allows you to connect it directly to the phone without an amplifier. On the Avaya phones at work, they have a separate jack and button on the phone for a headset which makes this headset fully integrated.

If you spend a lot of time on the phone, this is one investment well worth it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but not the best for all day use, July 25, 2007

This professional headset is way better than anything offered for cell and home phone use, but be aware that it uses a different interface and requires a control unit to connect it to your phone.

These look trick, and with the Plantronics interface you can get the volume right so that isn't a problem, but they just don't provide as reliable a speaker to ear connection as the head band types. I could never get the ear piece to sit in the right place on my big old ears and eventually went back to the head band type.

If you have long or 'big' hair or can't stand to have anything over your head then this may be for you. If not then maybe a different Plantronics headset will fit your needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just what we needed!, September 12, 2011

We tried to purchase this item locally, and were steered by a rep towards a more expensive product. Our business manager found the item we wanted at 1/3 the price we would have paid otherwise, without the hard-sell tactics! Thanks you for being a purchaser's best friend!

My last one was a noise-cancelling Mirage, but the earpiece does take some getting used to.

If I wasn't so lazy, I'd return it and get the noise-cancelling mic version, which has MUCH better sound quality. It's surprising how much effect the voice tube mic has on the incoming audio quality.

This one has a "down the corridor" quality to it, which takes some getting used to.

This will get the job done, as long as you're not really picky about sound quality.

If you are, get the noise-cancelling version.

3.0 out of 5 stars Helpful but so so, November 5, 2010
This review is from: Plantronics H41 Mirage Voice Tube (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I read lots of great reviews of this product and needed a headset due to back and neck problems. Plantronics customer service is poor, making it difficult to learn that I needed not just the voice tube, but also an A10 connector to attach it to the phone. We could not get the headset to work at first and I was told by Plantronics I also needed an amplifier (another $80). However, we learned in talking the company that services our phones that no amplifier was needed. The phone manufacture's rep programmed one of the buttons on my phone to activate and shut off the headset (there is no on off button on the headset or connector)then it worked. If you don't have a multi-line phone as do I this headset might not work for you.

If you wear glasses you may well find the earpiece bulky. Also, since I am not on the phone all day like some users, I don't have the headset on regularly. That means when the phone rings I'm scrambling to get the headset on, again an awkward process if you have glasses. The amplified earpiece is bulky as well, making the whole thing difficult to put in place. Sound quality is so, so, I often feel like I'm doing as five year olds do, talking on tin cans.

That said, the headset is better than holding the phone headset up to my ear or resting it on my shoulder. I can also stand and even move around a bit when talking on the phone which is a big help since I otherwise sit much of the day.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome purchase, October 13, 2010

Didn't like the over-the-head style headsets so I started looking for the kind that just rested on the ear. I had used this type before so had an idea of what I wanted. Found this for less than half the price of a new one from the manufacturer. It came in much quicker than I expected and appeared new and in perfect shape. I'd definitely buy from this seller again. Works great.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for an office with fairly stationary staff., May 18, 2010

I use these in a small office. We have a PBX phone system and what you would expect to see in an office phone. This headset does require an amplifier Plantronics Vista Universal Modular Adapter and Amplifier to connect to our phones.

The cable that connects the amplifier to the headset has a snap release so employees can walk away without removing their headsets. There are also y-cables In-line Y Adapter Trainer Cablew/quick Disconnect Clamp Kit & Mute available for training so it is very functional for us.

The only complaint I have received is from employees who are pretty much incapable of wearing a headset of any sort due to their hair and they simply use the handset receiver.

On a final note, I will speak to the durability of these units. To date, I have never had to replace one. I have only had to buy additional ones when we add staff. They are very durable and do not lose noticible quality over time.

2.0 out of 5 stars Plantronics voice tube, September 29, 2007

Poor customer service. Item was misrepresented on Amazon web site. It did not show or discribe "end-plug", whith did not fit any of my equipment. I had "red tape" and difficulty commuicating/locating customer service. I returned item at my expense and after many, many weeks recieved a much less credit for it. If item was displayed with picture and/or discription of "end-plug", this problem could have been avoided. The product itself may very well be a superior one but I was unable to use it.
