The closer the mic is to your mouth the more real you sound.,

The earpiece is pretty comfortable and the sound is good. The microphone is what will have you and the other party thanking Plantronics. Ever talk to somebody who is using a cheap or small cellular phone? Annoying isn't it. The M145 warms things up, no more speaker phone sound quality.I always use the headset in the car. It's great on the home phone too. When they start putting headphone jacks on all the home phones everybody will have a headset. They are so comfortable and convenient, now I have two.(car/home) The only thing missing is an on cord/headset answer button.(might not be possible for a universal product) The volume control is nice but I rarely use it, would trade it in a heartbeat for an anwer button. Last thing, those headsets that have a mic that clips to your lapel are ok, maybe a little more discrete. Your voice won't sound as warm because the mic is farther away.

Very comfortable, Great sound.,

I wasn't sure I would like a headset that fits in your ear but once I got it adjusted properly, I found the M145 to be very comfortable. The sound quality is excellent and the volume control is very handy. I don't know what that other reviewer was talking about because mine came with a lapel clip. To test the quality I called my voice mail from my car with my radio on and the sun roof wide open, traveling 60mph down the highway and the call came through loud and clear with no wind noise and the radio was barely audible. There is also an ajustment on the jack that plugs into the phone to adjust the microphone volume if people have trouble hearing you. My only complaint is that the mute button turns on too easily. Overall I was pleasently surprised with the M145 and am happy with my purchase.

The best hands-free ear piece I have ever used,

I believe I can easily explain why a few other reviewers gave this item a poor rating... you must also have an excellent cordless phone to get the benefits of this device.I've been using a Jabra ear/mike with an AT&T 9311 cordless phone and while I could hear great and the Jabra ear piece was comfy, no one could hear me. I just bought a new Sony SPP-N1025 cordless phone and got this Plantronics ear piece after it was recommended to me. I called my parents using the new phone and this Plantronics headset and they said they couldn't tell I was on the cordless. Previously, they were always telling me they could barely hear me and I had to yell when I spoke to them on the old phone and the Jabra headset. I was talking to my mom this evening on the new phone and this headset when the the batteries started going out on my phone since it had only charged for about 10 minutes. I switched phones and put the Plantronics headset into the AT&T phone and continued the conversation. My mother said that while the sound quality was better than it had been in the past (same crappy phone, but Jabra headset), it wasn't as good as it was with it in the Sony phone and she couldn't hear me as well. If you've got a good phone (a Panasonic, Sony or Seimens), this ear piece can't be beat. It comes with some attachments to help fix it in your ear. Everyone has a differently shaped ear and not all pieces will fit in everyone's ears. There are other after-market attachments, such as the Jabra form-fitted rubber ear-shaped cups which fit nicely on this ear piece. The boom mike swings toward your mouth and it features a shirt-clip and a microphone mute swtich on the cord as well as a dial to adjust listening volume. Hands-free is the way to be... no more craning your neck and getting fatigued while on the phone... and thanks to Plantronics, you don't have to scream your head off for your callers to hear you.

This is a good headset for the price, but it does have some major problems. First, I should note that I use it primarily with my cell phone, not with my cordless phone at home. When I have used it at home, I have found the sound to be fine. When using it with my cell, however, and particularly in the car, I find the volume to be too low. Even with the volume on the head set and on my cell turned all the way up, it is very difficult to hear over the sound of the car. By the way, my car is not that loud, and I have not had this problem when using other headsets. My other complaint stems from the little black sponge thing that covers the ear piece. They are FOREVER falling off in the car. Which, when you're driving, means they are lost to you until you can stop and look for them. Given their size and color, they might be lost for good. The ear piece is uncomfortable -- and the sound quality is terrible -- without the sponge cover. Bottom line: although the headset has been useful, I'm looking for another model that provides better sound quality and doesn't use those little black sponge things.

Not without its flaws, but the best for now (for its price),

Ever since using a Plantronics headset at work (one of the old school ones) when I did inside sales years ago, I knew that I was using one of the best headsets out there. About a year ago, I was delighted to discover that Plantronics made cell phone headsets for a much more reasonable price than what the 'landline' headset cost way back when. For cell phones, I have used many headsets - earbud, over the head, over the ear, Britney-in-concert-in-front-of-the-mouth style, etc. But this particular one, the Plantronics M145, is very comfortable and has the unbeatable clarity that I've come to expect from Plantronics. I always sound clear to the people that I'm talking to - but at times, I feel that the incoming sound can be on the soft side - even with both my phone volume and the headset volume maxed out. Also, whenever I'm fishing my headset out of my purse, it is always, without fail, switched to the mute setting, which makes it really awkward when I'm gabbing away (unheard by whomever I'm speaking with) until they say 'Hello? Hello???' and then I realized I've unwittingly muted my phone. This makes me believe that perhaps the switch could be made a little tighter by the manufacturer, or made so that it's more difficult to mute it than to unmute it (most users probably would have it more often unmuted than on the mute setting, by default, right?) My final complaint is that the volume control mechanism makes the entire headset unit feel a bit top-heavy. Unless I clip the top part of the headset to my shirt, it feels like the volume mechanism weighs it down, sometimes causing the headset to come off, especially if I opt not to use the over-the-ear attachment (the product comes with 3 available attachments - one is the over-the-ear piece, and then there is foam to cover the ear part, and the other is a rubbery thing to go over the ear part - I've yet to discover how to use this perplexing attachment). It isn't always necessary to use the over-the-ear part, and in fact it's quite comfortable to use without it - it just makes the headset a little easier to fall off your ear. The volume mechanism makes it almost a guarantee that it will fall off if you don't clip it from above the mechanism onto your shirt collar (again, without the over-the-ear attachment on). That said, this is my favorite among all headsets I've ever owned in terms of comfort and clarity. There can be improvements, but I will stick with this headset for a good while down the road until the wireless bluetooth ones come down significantly in price.

This is an excellent headset. I do believe the quality of it depends on the quality of your phone too, as one reviewer said before me. On all my new'ish cell phones and home phones it has worked awesome, but a little lack-luster on an older portable phone.I notice someone said earlier that you cant find replacement parts? Well.. they havent been to plantronics: http://www.headsetsdirect.com/ This website has ALL replacement parts.. for $10 I got 10 of those black ear sponges, another metal ear clip, 4 rubber ear sponges, and a bit more in a replacement part package. Oh, that includes shipping. My experience with plantronics has always been the best... This headset (after testing $50 and even $100 sets from my office) still runs on par with them, keeping plantronics high in my book. I would also recommend the plantronics audio 90 headset for home use, I've used that for well over a year with no issue as well.

Finding a headset that not only fits, but also has good sound quality has been difficult. I first purchased one by Motorola (since I have a StarTac) which retracts -- a great idea, but sometimes retracted when I accidentally hit it. The mic also was too far from my mouth, which made it difficult for anyone to hear me. Needless to say, I was back to the drawing board. I now have the M145 model (with lapel clip) from Plantronics. It is not only comfortable on the ear, but the sound quality is terrific. I also called my home phone while driving; my message was not only clear, but there was no audible background noise. Unlike Barb, though, I have not had any problems with the mute button; so wonder whether that is a defect limited to hers and maybe she should trying getting another one through the warranty.

This thing is great, directional sound is amazing when placed inside the ear. One thing that confused me at first is the black over-the-ear hook is not for support here. The hook is actually not supposed to touch your ear unless the earpeice falls out, so it doesn't hit the floor, etc. I've found that bending the wire (slightly) to make it touch no skin improves the feel to where you don't know it is there. The microphone looks odd at first, a rubbery tip with a hole down the center, but apparently the design works flawlessly.

I liked this product, although my main complaint is that I lost it within 5 days primarily due to the fact that there was no lapel clip. Once you remove the ear bud & throw it over your shoulder so as not to look like a yuppie freak when communicating with others in person, there is nothing holding the unit to you. It disconnected from my phone jack so easily I didn't feel it & I lost a unit I paid far too much for (didn't check this site before purchasing). Now, I am trying to decided whether to re-purchase this model or go for a lower model - the M140 - which seems to have rave reviews on it. Personally, I like a volume control, however, & at times even this M145 model seemed a little low in volume for me. With the M140 not having a volume control, I'm afraid I will stick with the M145 - and maybe just buy a lapel clip. Only other complint is that the cord is so long it is too obvious. No way to really reel it in. Love the earbud with clip design, though; only wish the boom mic was a bit more flexible for adjustment purposes. Loved the fact that I can switch this to my home cordless phone, as well.

The fit of this head phone is a little different than others that I have used. As you can see from the picture, it hangs over your ear. It does not fit very tightly against your ear. That lets the noise around me mingle with the earbud's sound so it is not very clear. The volume control you see in the photo can be used to increase the volume in the ear piece. The result for me was to make the sound louder but not more clear. The loose dangley fit never seemed comfortable to me.
The sound listeners hear coming from the microphone can be adjusted by sliding a micro switch to one of three levels. The highest level is not adequate for some phones and people I called had trouble hearing what I was saying. You need to try this headset with the phone you want to use it with. It will work well with some but not with others. You may want to consider the return policy of the seller and the shipping charges involved. |
