5.0 out of 5 stars Plantronics M223-N1 Mobile Headset with Nokia Specific 2.5mm Plug, March 13, 2007
This review is from: Plantronics M223-N1 Mobile Headset with Nokia Specific 2.5mm Plug (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I just received a Plantronics M223-N1 Mobile Headset with Nokia Specific 2.5mm Plug yesterday and I too was amazed to find out that it works exactly as described.

Excellent noise suppression, fits over the ear perfectly and after wearing it for five minutes you almost forget it is even on.

I LOVE it, might just buy another one for my wife!

5.0 out of 5 stars Nokia Requires THREE Black Bands, Not The "Standard" TWO!, March 5, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plantronics M223-N1 Mobile Headset with Nokia Specific 2.5mm Plug (Wireless Phone Accessory)
As an owner of a whole string of various models of Nokia cell phones, I have discovered what most Nokia users have found out. That is, the accessory plug for a Nokia has THREE black bands around it, NOT the "standard" TWO - rendering most after sale non Nokia earplugs, headsets, etc, completely inoperative on the Nokia phones. Looking for something a bit more sophisticated, sound-wise, than the standard Nokia earplug-mike wire, I was both surprised, pleased - and yes, a tad suspicious to see a Plantronics set advertised for less than $12. that actually specified compliance with Nokia (note the -N1 at the end of the model number for this device.) The 'standard' 2.5mm plug information is misleading on the products of other other manufacturers that claim their products are compliant with Nokia - because the plug size is not the issue - it is the number of bands on it 0 and if you look realkly closely, the shape of the plug tip.

The moment it arrived, I opened it, plugged it into my cell phone, put the earpiece on and fully expected it to fail. Oh joy of joys! The headset icon on the phone's screen activated - indicating that it had actually recognized and accepted the device. I made a call to another voice mail with it to test the quality as the microphone is mounted on a short boom and claims to be "Noise canceling and to reduce background noises." It did both! It also featured a rubbery ear-holder that can be adapted to work on either ear and a one-touch call answer/end button by the earpiece. The microphone also supports and works with voice activation if you have that feature activated on your phone.

In a drawer at home, I have a collection of devices purchased for Nokias in the past that did not work that I did not bother to return. I am ready to toss them. On the online ad for this device, there is 1) a close up shot of the plug CLEARLY showing the three necessary black bands, as well as 2) the naming of my specific Nokia model as being compliant with it. I use a Nokia 6030 currently.
I am told by the people I often call from the car that the reception sound from me is vastly improved with this simple and inexpensive device. I wish I had found it sooner!

So... Do `generic' plug-in devices work with Nokia phones? Generally not. Are truly compliant devices from other manufacturers available? Finally, the answer is a long awaited YES! Check it out.
