Binaural vs. monaural sound,
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plantronics Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
It's illegal to drive a car with earphones in both ears. This is why cellphone earsets are monaural (one ear). To make binaural (two ears) earphones for music that you can also use monaural on a cell phone, manufacturers have to do some tricks. Jabra's C220S is designed to have horrendous feedback if you try to use it binaurally with a microphone. Sennheiser's MM10 has an unique 4-conductor plug for use only with certain Motorola combo cellphones/MP3 players. The Plantronics MX100S has a simpler solution: two plugs. A standard 3.5mm stereo plug connects to any music player with a headphone jack; a standard 2.5mm plug connects to any standard cellphone. An in-line switch switches between the two. Simple, works perfectly. I use the MX100S with an anti-stuttering device that has both a 3.5mm headphones jack and a 2.5mm earset jack. I plug in both plugs and get binaural sound with the microphone. The microphone sound quality isn't as good as a boom microphone such as the MX150, but it's good enough. The earphones sound good. The rubber earclips hold the earphones in comfortably and securely, as good as the Jabra, and better than the Sennheiser. All in all, the MX100S works with no flaws, unlike the Jabra or the Sennheiser.

Plantronics MX100s versus Jabra C-120,
By Patrick (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plantronics Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I wanted to hear my cell phone in both ears and I wanted to listen to music in both ears using my Treo 650. Well, I decided to go with the Plantronics MX100s because they are a well-known brand and I have used their other high-quality headsets for years.Sadly, I was disappointed by the MX100s, but let me be clear. The MX100s is well made and has excellent sound quality, and includes two plugs - one for your phone and one for your iPod or whatever MP3 player. It works well with both the Treo 650 and my iPods. It is ALMOST everything I expected from a Plantronics product, with one tiny but important (and not mentioned anywhere) feature. THE PHONE SOUND ONLY COMES OUT OF ONE EAR!!!! How stupid is that? What a sad thing that the only missing feature on an otherwise superior product is something you would take for granted on a dual earbud headset. Now I wish I had gotten the Jabra c-120's, although I would like someone to confirm that the phone sound comes out of both ears (duh!) Hello, Plantronics ... are you listening?

Stereo doesn't work with Treo 700p,
By JC (San Francisco, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plantronics Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
The whole point of getting stereo headset is to listen to music and audio books in stereo. I was very surprised to learn when I received this headset that for the Treo 700p there is no stereo. From the earlier poster who had the Treo 650, I thought the point was the phone calls wouldn't be in stereo which wasn't a big deal. I had called Plantronics to see if this would work with the new Treo and they had said yes so I bought it. But on the 700p nothing is in stereo. This headset is useless for a Treo 700p.
