This is a good headset for people who don't have small kids. It works great and the mic is clear but its is very films and it feels that way. My daughter tried to put them on and the microphone broke right off.

First of all I would like to say that if you are going to trypurchasing a PC headset; Plantronics is already well established as amanufacturer of quality headsets for cordless phones... and for Internet Telephony this is buy far the best purchase for your money. The only reason why I gave this product 4 stars was so that you might take time to weigh your options before you choose this model over the other two great PC Headsets offered by Plantronics.

There are 3 models of headsets developed by Plantronics for your PC: The SR1, the LS1, and the HS1.

The SR1 is the model that I am reviewing here. This here is a great buy, don't let my seemingly unenthusiastic "good" rating fool you. It is lightweight and comfortable on almost any size head, its sound is crisp and the microphone is surprisingly good at cleaning up noise. It is an ideal model for those who are interested in the headset purely for Internet Telephony and conferencing. The hands-free design in this model makes it possible for you to talk to your friends while continuing your work or play on the internet (if you have ever tried to hold a microphone while doing other tasks you know the problems). ...

Yet this model is not useful if you intend to diversify your headset to be used with other applications such as listening to MP3s or CDs on the computer. The lack of a right speaker makes listening to music frustrating.

If you find that you are the kind of person who listens to music while they write e-mails or type papers, or listen to MP3s occasionally when you are on the computer, you should probably consider the LS1 model. The Stereo Sound makes this model more universal than the SR1 model. Plus it also has a nifty little feature in that you can adjust the volume, and the microphone has a on/off switch if you just want to use the earphones. And I feel that the LS1 is definitely worth the extra $5 if you are ever going to use it (or may later use it) for anything other than person to person communications.

Yet if you are a person like me and use your computer more than your stereo to listen to music, and/or are an avid gamer; let me say that the HS1 is much more valuable than the LS1. It is far more durable than the lighter models, and has hi-fi stereo quality sound to give great bass-enhanced sound quality. Now if your thinking "Now why do I need that?" then chances are YOU DON'T, get the LS1 and you will be happy. But as online multiplayer games utilize more and more telephony, you are really going to want to not only be able to communicate with your teammates, but you will want to feel the explosions in your middle ear and know from what direction and what distance your opponents are firing from. The HS1 also has the advantage of having 40mm built in speakers, to make listening to music a pure joy. I find that whenever I switch from between a high-end hi-fi earphones to standard earphones, all music seems to degenerate into elevator "Musac". And keep in mind; you can buy one of the cheaper headphones and just use your stock speakers for listening to music, but this will either require you to buy a separate toggle switch between the earphones and the speakers, or you will be required to manually switch plugs in the back of your computer every time you want to change output devices. I find that the HS1 model negates the need for external speakers, unless you have surround sound hooked up the HS1s should do nicely (as long as you don't feel selfish looking at all the puppy dog eyes your friends will make watching you enjoying the personal experience of a hi-fi headset.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for speach recognition and books on tape., August 19, 2000
This review is from: Plantronics SR1 Monaural Speech Recognition PC Headset (Personal Computers)
This is a great headset if you are doing any speach recognition. Once you use it for a little while (or right when you start if your computer is already trained to your voice), it gets your commands right about 98% of the time. Expecially for me, that's a hudge improvement from my internal mic.

It's very confortable, and it's able to change sizes, and it can cover everything from my small head to my brother's large head.

It's sound is fine for the computer's voice, books-on-tape Mp3 files, and anything along that. Games and Stereo music sounds okay, but not recommended. It's not made for that, although it is fine if you don't mind it much. But be warned, this is not for people playing games like Quake all the time.

Lastly, the main problem is the cord. It isn't a problem if you are a long way from your sound input/headphone jack, but it is very long, and can sometimes get in the way. If you use a twist-tie and wrap it up, you should be fine, though.

All in all, a good purchase if you want to do speach, but not good for 3D and stereo games and music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good for games., September 29, 2001

I bought this set to use the new voice communication in Counter-strike and other games alike. It works great, for games and just talking over the internet like on AIM. For the Price Amazon.com is selling it at, its a steal. I strongly suggest this set to anyone not sure of what gaming mic they want. Or if you just want to talk to people over the internet or whatever you use a mic for. I have found no flaws.

3.0 out of 5 stars Misleading Product Description, April 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

I just received this SR1. The descriptions says USB connection and an in-line volume/mute switch. Both are wrong. It has the 3.5mm jacks and no in-line switch.
