4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price
This is my second Plantronics bluetooth. The first one is 510 which I purchased for my husband's Tmobile SDA, which we both love and have paired to both our phones. I just purchased this bluetooth couple of days back from a different store and not through Amazon. I did not see any reviews except for one so thought would share my take on Discovery 610. Very sleek and light...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, good audio, bad voice dialing
Got this to replace a Plantronics 510, and so far my reaction is mixed.

Pros: Lightweight, snug fit, great audio clarity
Cons: Voice dialing doesn't work

To elaborate, while the audio is great... I do miss the hands free voice dialing. I tried pairing this phone with a Motorola Razr and simply couldn't get it to work. The problem is that...

Very sleek and light weight. Plugged it to the power charger and in about an hour it was fully charged. The light stays red when the bluetooth is charging and when done the light goes off. I felt that the optional hook is a must as it doesn't have a firm hold on the ear without it, looks odd but is quite comfortable. I did not have trouble pairing nor making calls with my T-mobile MDA. The pairing was extremely simple and quick and have paired to two devices. The audio quality on both sides is pretty good. Does not have noice reduction so in quite environment it sounds very clear. The volume has to be increased in a noisy environment. The power button has multiple features, hold it for a while until you see the red light - this is for both on and off. The double click (two fast clicks) will redial the previously dialed number. You don't get a feel for the button when its pressed down so you have to hear the sound to figure out if you clicked it twice and the connections is in progress or not. I am yet to set up voice dial feature. Overall, I will recommend this bluetooth. For the price and the Plantronics quality it is a keeper.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broke my previous one and bought it again without hesitation, January 3, 2008

This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I bought this after previously owning (and wearing out) the Discovery 645. I decided it wasn't worth paying double for the "chrome finish" case and recharger/holder again because I never used them. This model -- Discovery 610 -- has performed just as well as the 645 at half the price. I've tried a number of Bluetooth headsets over the last two years and this one is my favorite by far. Two small nits to pick about it, though. First, it randomly loses its connection to my phone. Every once in awhile it just -- beep! -- refuses to recognize that the phone is sitting right there where it was for the previous half-hour. Usually, a quick tap of the power button makes it relocate the phone and connect right back up again. Second, it's really impractical to use it without the supporting ear loop, but keeping the ear loop on there day in and day out eventually wears out the connecting post and breaks the headset (that's what happened to my old 645). I got two years of constant use out of it, though, before it broke. When I dropped my replacement two-month-old 610 into a bowl of water accidentally last night, I didn't hesitate to go right back out and buy another 610. It's a terrific little headset. I just wish the supporting ear loop were an integrated part of it somehow. Oh -- a quick tip; go to a jewelry store and get a triangular "pinch box" as a carry case for it. The larger pinch boxes hold the headset with the ear loop in place, no problem.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plantronics bluetooth Discovery 610, June 8, 2007
This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I love this headset! It is very small, yet convenient and works well. It is easy to recharge quickly and comes with all the necessary accessories, including 3 sizes of earpiece to make sure it fits most anyone. Good reception and vollume control, good transmission. Clear, superb product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great earpiece!, June 8, 2007

I love this earpiece! It is small, discreet, fits inside your ear so sound quality is much better than those that hang off your ear. Took a little while to figure out which of the 3 rubber-ish ear pieces fit best, but once done, I can wear it for hours without noticing it! Great product!

3.0 out of 5 stars Lightweight, good audio, bad voice dialing, December 28, 2007
This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)

The problem is that voice dialing is activated by holding the single button down for a "long" press. (Unfortunately, hold it down too long and you deactivate the phone.)

Once I got the timing right, the phone still wouldn't recognize any of the names I tried saying. The message that displays on the phone about "Speak the name" also disappears way too fast by itself. I had no problem before with the 510, but this 610 has problems in that area.

Oh yeah, for kicks I tried pairing it with a Samsung t619 too. Although the phone thinks its paired up, it doesn't register anything I do beyond that. Yeah, next time I think I'll go back and get another 510 instead.

So... I guess it's still a decent buy if you get cheaply and don't use voice dialing. But otherwise...

1.0 out of 5 stars really dislike this gadget, November 14, 2008
This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
When I first purchased this I thought it was reasonable for the price and amount of time I would be using it. Now that I've used it for a few months, I've come to dispise it. I find it has poor sound quality for both callers and myself, but the electronic beeps that indicated a call is ended, etc are painfully loud and clear. The ear insert doesn't fit my small ears and the assembly falls apart easily when you are trying to ajust the fit. I've had to pull the car over and fish around under the seats of my car several times to find the parts to reassemble it. The multi-function button is stiff and difficult to use. I'm already looking for a replacement.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ergonomics good, sound quality not good, October 10, 2008

We bought the Jabra BT125 and the more expensive Plantronics Discovery 610 about 6 months ago. The Jabra has better sound quality and volume for both listening and talking, but the Plantronics fits better and is more durable. It fits tightly in the ear canal and has a durable wire over the ear band that is comfortable. I find I have to keep fiddling with it to get a tight fit it my ear canal so I can hear well. The Jabra rides loosely on the ear and the ear band broke after several months of use. 5 new bands cost $7+$4 shipping = $11. I prefer the Jabra, and my wife prefers the Plantronics. If possible, try on the Jabra. If its looseness doesn't bother you, go with it because of the better sound quality and volume.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mostly Pro, a couple of Cons, August 22, 2008
This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
For the most part I love my 610, I love the rubber earpiece and lightweight, comfortable feel (I forget I have it on half the time), I love the sound quality, I LOVE the ability to use the SYNC voice dialing with my Palm Treo 750. The price was very reasonable, and I like that it warns me when I get too far from my phone. I do have a couple of comments tho... I too have gotten disconnected in the middle of a call for no reason, but a push of the button reconnects... and the charger connector on mine broke off pretty easily as well. It goes right back on, but I'd rather not have to deal with it. I use the ear hook because I have very long hair that gets tangled around it and I'm afraid it will get caught, fall out and break...but even the ear hook is very comfortable. All in all, a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Good Product, January 23, 2012

This is a very comfortable earpiece. I even forget it's in my ear sometimes. Nobody ever complains about sound quality on the other end, a problem I have had with other brands. I have purchased and returned many earpieces. Some very expensive. Plantronics is the best. The price is good, so when you lose it it's not as upsetting to be buying a replacement. I have gone through about 20 of these over the years (i lose them a lot) and I have always been happy. It comes with different size earbuds for your comfort. I have tried other models of the same earpiece and this model is just as good and much cheaper. Very easy to connect to the phone as well. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

2.0 out of 5 stars I used to have one..., March 2, 2011
This review is from: Plantronics UPD610 Discovery 610 Bluetooth Headset (Wireless Phone Accessory)
... until... wait a second... oh, yeah. That little broken charging pin. Had other problems too. Like not switching off after the other guy hangs up, you hear such a subtle static you don't notice at times, therefore dead very soon. Fixed by restart. Sometimes losing connection.
Still, it was a gift from co-workers and was pretty useful while it was alive. Comfortable and stable even without the loop.
I kinda miss it. But I'll be going stereo. And then I'll trash the corpse. And the useless charger.
