Amazon.com Product Description

For the ultimate in wireless freedom, look no further than the Plantronics Voyager 510 Bluetooth headset, which represents a generational leap in Bluetooth headset technology. It's comfortable and light enough for all day wear, and it offers unprecedented clarity and sound quality. These are great features, but the real revolution involves Plantronics' exclusive Multipoint technology, which allows the headset to function as a powerful communication solution for up to two Bluetooth devices.

With Multipoint technology you can switch between your voice-enabled Bluetooth mobile phone, PDA or laptop. The headset's "smart" technology knows which device you are using and allows you to take calls from any device at the touch of a button. With the optional Plantronics Bluetooth Deskphone Adapter you can even switch between your office phone and your Bluetooth mobile phone. You'll never need to use a dedicated "landline" phone headset again.

The 510 features WindSmart technology, which enhances call clarity in windy environments (i.e., car with window/roof open, air conditioning on, outside with breeze), and it folds for easy storage. The boom also swivels for perfect positioning on either ear. One-touch call control buttons are placed for easy access, and you can easily redial the last number dialed and initiate voice-activated calls from the headset. Because the 510 is Bluetooth-enabled (it supports the Bluetooth 1.2 specification) you can roam up to 33 feet from your Bluetooth device. Meanwhile, the 510 supports adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) which helps avoid interference from Wi-Fi networks. Ample talk time is provided by the built-in rechargeable battery; you'll get up to 6 hours talk time and up to 100 hours of standby time.

Specifications

  • Talk time: Up to 6 hours
  • Standby time: Up to 100 hours
  • Bluetooth version: 1.2 (supports headset and handsfree profiles)
  • Wearing style: Over-the-ear; boom swivels for wearing on either ear
  • Headset controls: Volume, mute, call answer/end, voice-activated dialing (must be supported by your phone)
  • Adaptive Frequency Hopping: Yes (helps to avoid interference for co-existence with Wi-Fi/WLAN)
  • Supports analog and digital office phones: Yes

4.0 out of 5 stars Great phone - caution with recertified, February 17, 2009
By
This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 510 Recertified Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is my 2nd Voyager 510. I still have the other one I just wanted to have two so I can always have one charged and ready to go. I've thrown a lot of money away on Bluetooth headsets - but this has been a reliable unit and sounds fantastic. Other devices I've used people have complained of echoes or tunnel sound effect - and this one has been almost perfect. My friend has the cute Plantronics 925 which picks up every background noise that's out there which is really annoying for the one who has to hear you speak thru the 925; the 510 filters out the noises better and sounds like you're talking on a regular phone. It's not as cute as the newer models like the 925 or Jabra's....but the 510 is quality.

The only downside I had from this transaction was that the charger received with the phone was broken. Since I already have a charger it really wasn't a big of a deal to me. I did call Amazon for a possible charger replacement - but I would have had to send back the entire bluetooth. I guess that's the only downside to purchasing a recertified unit - something might be wrong with it. I wish the folks who certified it would have checked a/c charger. Other than that...for the discounted price.....it's a fantastic deal on a quality blue tooth ear piece. The on/off button is a minor issue - very easy to turn on and off by pushing or sliding up a small plastic button. I for one don't mind this because I don't want to accidentally turn off my Bluetooth. Now I've got two great Voyager 510's and I should be good to go for quite some time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound quality. Decent battery life. A bit clunky, February 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 510 Recertified Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I've just had to replace the Plantronics 510 Voyager that I've had for over 2 years because I twisted it incorrectly when trying to adapt it for use on my right ear instead of my left and that errant twist apparently broke a wire inside renedering it useless. This was my error and not an indication of the quality of the headset.

I am replacing it with the exact same thing as this is the best headset I've had the experience of using. I've had several over the years...jabra, another plantronics. The 510 Voyager has the best audio clarity of them all and people tell me my voice sounds clear and strong. Some people can't believe I'm using my cell-pone.

The only thing I don't like about this headset is the on-off button can be difficult to press. It's just a bad design of that particular feature but all things considered, I think this headset is an outstanding bargain considering it's performance.

UPDATE: March 4, 2009: Unfortunately I've had to return the "Recertified" Voyager 510 because the battery life was not per specifications or what I was accustomed to with my previous 510. The battery did not hold a charge for very long thus the talk time and standby time was diminished. I've returned the unit and have reordered the "normal" 510 for $10 more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great with Blackberry Pearl, Skype and Vista, February 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 510 Recertified Bluetooth Headset (Silver) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
This is my first bluetooth headset. Within five minutes of opening the box, I had it paired with my computer (has a built in bluetooth module) and my Blackberry Pearl. I bought it primarily to use with Skype and it works great. (once you have the headset paired to the computer, you need to go into Skype's Sound options to set the bluetooth device as the default speaker and microphone).

The headset is comfortable and sound quality is good. Range is OK - about 25 feet - but is severely diminished by walls. As long as I am in the same room as my phone or computer it works great.

After using this, there is no way that I would go back to a corded headset! Highly recommended!

Two notes:
1) The recertified model comes with a 3 month warranty instead of the standard one year.
2) I am using Windows Vista Business 32 SP1 and found the pairing process to be straight forward and painless.
