4.0 out of 5 stars Well designed, lightweight and very functional hands-free unit!
As more and more States, Municipalities, and Military Bases forbid cell phone use in cars without a hands-free system, it is becoming almost a necessity to own a system of some sort to comply. This Bluetooth headset is a perfect opportunity to obey the law with a system that is very comfortable, affordable, and functional.

This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 520/V521 Bluetooth Headset (Blue) (Wireless Phone Accessory)

The unit itself is nicely compact, and easy to forget you are wearing it while on your ear. The package includes the main unit, a well-documented instruction manual, a base stand for charging (not required), and a charging unit. The instructions are clear, concise, and complete. The sound is good, though I wouldn't say it is as good as units that cost three or four times as much. The volume control and call/answer buttons work as advertised and are very easy to find and use.

Outbound voice is clear as tested with a few of my friends. They said that it was difficult to tell whether I was on my phone directly, or on a hands-free headset.

ISSUES:

1. Pairing the unit with my iPhone 3GS system was easy, BUT the phone did not recognize the Plantronics by its own name as the manual stated it should. It saw the unit in Bluetooth as an "ATT V521", though it paired perfectly, and without incident and all functions work properly. I don't know if this will be a common issue, or if it is just a glitch with MY phone.

2. I subtracted one star only because I would have liked the ear bud portion of the unit to be a little deeper into my ear canal and I can't find a way to adjust it any further... though it is perfectly functional as is, and I can fully hear and understand calls.

For the price, this should be considered a great buy, and I'm very happy with my purchase. Recommended for anyone with a Bluetooth-enabled phone who don't want to buy the cream of the crop for a whole lot more money.

UPDATE #1 (21DEC09): This works so well, I ordered a second unit for my wife for Christmas for use when she's driving. Still very happy with purchase(s)!

UPDATE #2 (28DEC09): The unit I got for my wife for Xmas works just as well as the first! AND... it had the same ID with her Apple iPhone 3G (last year's model_ shows ATT521 for the model of the headset, but works perfectly. Guess this is completely normal. Still a A+++ Recommendation

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great, even w/ PS3 - quickpair instructions incomplete, December 13, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 520/V521 Bluetooth Headset (Blue) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I purchased this for myself in one of the recent Lightning Deal promotions. I love it so much, I decided to purchase another today as a gift. I tested the clarity of this headset by calling people, and asking if they could hear me clearly about 5-10 minutes into the call. No one could tell that I was using a headset.

Like another reviewer, the name for this device does not come up as "Voyager" like it states in the manual. Instead, it shows as "ATT V251". If you look on the back of the earpiece, it actually says this in white print. Not sure why this isn't in the instructions.

One thing I wanted to point out is that it can pair up with two devices. If you read the instruction booklet, it says to turn the headset off then back on to quickpair with your second device. I tried to do this with the PS3, but it would not find my headset. After reading many forums with no answer, I went to the Plantronics website to check out their knowledge base. I don't know why this isn't in their manual, but you don't just turn the headset off then on again. Once it turns on, continue to hold down the power button for 6-10 more seconds until the light flashes red and blue. Then your device is ready to be found/recognized by your computer/PS3/cell phone. I figured this might help someone who tries to pair this with something, but it's not being found.

I've been turning this thing on and off for a few days now. I've had it on continuously throughout the day, and I've used it on several phone calls. So far, the battery life is still pretty good. I would have expected to charge it by now.

I really have no complaints about this purchase. Like anything wireless, there's bound to be some loss of signal the further away you move from your cell phone/computer/PS3. I had my phone in my jacket pocket, and there was some static. Then again, the jacket pocket was the barrier causing the interference. If you're lucky enough to spot this on Lightning Deals, snatch one up. It's definitely a good buy.

I have small ears and headsets always hung off, if I turned my head too fast, they would fall off. This headset is GREAT! It fits snugly to my ear and I can turn my head and it stays put! Great quality as well.

I picked up the voyager 520 earpiece from amazon as a Christmas gift for my mother and decided to get one for myself to avoid a costly traffic ticket. I am disappointed I didn't get a bluetooth sooner. This particular one works great with my Verizon Blackberry Tour 9630. I use it daily while driving home from work. I can hear crystal clear and the people on the other end cannot tell I'm on a bluetooth. Great product for a great price. Highly recommended. The fit is also wonderful. I cannot stand earbud headphones in my ear as they give me pain and fall out. The clip works perfect holding the bluetooth around the ear with just a little rubber speaker resting inside the ear. Not wedged in and very comfortable.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT, May 12, 2010

This review is from: Plantronics Voyager 520/V521 Bluetooth Headset (Blue) (Wireless Phone Accessory)
I have had many different brand headsets and the only one that works perfectly(to my satisfaction) is the Plantronics Voyager 520. I am on my third one since the first one was washed and dryed, the second one was lost and I am on my third. Everyone one of the three performed flawlessley. I did experience low volume in the headset when the headset volume was up all the way, but it was due to a setting in my phone and once I changed it, the sound went back to normal. By the way, if the volume in the phone is set on high as well as the headset volume being set on high, I find the volume is too loud.

I switched from my Motorola head set to the Plantronics Voyager 520. I must say that the fit is wonderful, sometimes I forget that I actually have a headset on. The call clarity is also much better, instead of hearing muffles from time to time I can hear the person at the other end very clearly. My only gripe is that if you have your phone more than just a few feet away (sometimes as close as in my pocket) there is a distinct sound of crackling, like the headset is going out of range. It isn't a deal breaker, but I would have liked to see a better range for the headset.

Other than the fact that I keep losing them, these are the best bluetooth devices I've used. I've bought a number of them; each of which had some good features. This one, however, is comfortable, has good controls, and people can actually hear me speak. Now, if they'd just come with a locator, I'd be very happy.

I've had other Bluetooths. I like the comfortability of this product over others. It is bigger and slightly heavier but for me it stays in my ear and feels more secure. I had a Jabra headset which pinched my ear because the ear hook was too stiff. I've had another Plantronics before and was satisfied with the type of ear hook this had. This one is nice because I have a work cell and personal cell and i am able to pair this with both phones at the same time. Obviously you can only connect to one call at a time but it is nice feature I didn't know the headset had. I have it paired to a Samsung Eternity on AT&T and a LG VX5500 on Verizon. The LG auto-paired, the Samsung paired entering the Pin. On the Samsung the headset is not listed as a Plantronics but it doesn't matter. Overall I am very satisfied with the headset. Obviously if you are out in a windy day, it will transfer wind, but I only use it in the car with the windows up and everyone says they can hear me clearly. Can't remember the exact price, but absolutely the lowest price from Amazon. I bought the light blue color one because I didn't care about the color. It was something line $15 or $20 less if I remember correctly. It all came in a new unopened box. Did the free shipping and because I live so close to Amazon (next state over) the shipping that should have taken 5-7 days was only 2 days. Amazon Rocks!!!

I have owned several plantronic products in the past and for the most part all have been of excellent quality. Unfortuately, this headset is not very good. The sound quality is very mediocre, with lots of static. The headset does not always work with incoming calls. I would not recommend this product
