The Bible of plants in the Chicago region,
By A Customer
This review is from: Plants of the Chicago Region (Hardcover)
Probably the most authoritative guide to plants that grow in and around Chicago. The entry for each plant even contains a map showing where it was found. This is the capstone work for Chicago's foremost Horticulturist.

New Edition of Plants of the Chicago Region,
By A Customer
This review is from: Plants of the Chicago Region (Hardcover)
Since the previous reviewer wrote, Mr. Swink passed away. The publisher is working on a new edition, which is expected to be out in summer or fall of 2003. There are only a few copies left of the current reprint. I'm waiting anxiously for the new edition.

Accurate and Usable Well Beyond the Midwest,
By Blue Cloud (New York State) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Plants of the Chicago Region (Hardcover)
Plants of the Chicago Region was my botanical Bible while identifying native plants in Midwestern ecosystems. Now I'm in upstate New York and I am thrilled to find that it is still useful and accurate. The keys are so precise, I prefer it to other guides. I love the fact that it identifies surrounding plant communities and gives a Conservancy factor. Really eager for Dr. Wilhelm's new edition.
