5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for the novice., April 26, 2000
This review is from: Plants from Test Tubes: An Introduction to Micropropagation (Hardcover)
For those just starting out, this is as good as it gets. Good for the beginner, but contains information useful to the more experienced. If you get hooked on this hobby, it shows how to set up your own lab without breaking the bank. The bibliography and list of supply sources will let you go as far as you want.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Best curently available, May 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Plants from Test Tubes: An Introduction to Micropropagation (Hardcover)
This book contains everything that you need to know to start cloneing plants. Some of the material is geared more towards comericial operations but there is a lot for the hobbiest too. I thought that it could have been organized a little better. The authors talk about equipment and media before they go through the cloning process. Parts of it will be boring unless you are planing to actually culture plants. For example there are several step by step lists on how to preform transfers etc.

The presentation of the book is very nice. It's written in a way that most person with some limited sciences background will understand with no trouble at all.Book is very well designed, by chapters from early discoveries to the most advance techniques, and still easy to completly understand and follow procedures without any problems. Language is very simple and clear, and is not boring at all.Author has a good way of describing and teaching the subject, and have a way of keeping interested in reading and doing the practical side of the experiments.
Will highly recomend.I;m very happy in owning this book.

If you want to know (and most important understand) the tissue culture process this is the book. Altough a chemistry or biology degree is not necessary don't forget to put aside you highschool notes because in some chapters it became a little bit technical. Great book to begin as hobby or as commercial.

5.0 out of 5 stars Step one starts here, October 25, 2007
This review is from: Plants from Test Tubes: An Introduction to Micropropagation (Hardcover)
This book will introduce you to not only the history but the nuts and bolts, logistics and mechanics of Micropropagation. I personally found it an invaluable resource to get me started. I can now confidently buy other books that hold specific data and experiments that I wish to pursue with the background knowledge and techniques I learnt here.

Certainly one of the better books I have read on this subject. Very descriptive and scientific. One downfall to the book and to the whole idea of tissue culture is the massive costs of lab equipment and growing media. Very well written book though, and a good starter book.

This book covers all that is neccasary to propogate plants of almost any variety. The references are great and add additional depth if you need it.There was new nomenclature I was not familar with, but was easily googled. This was great reading even if you don't persue it as a hobby. Now I know were all the commercial plants are made and how.
