This game is a brightly colored class based (online only) third person shooter. While there is cartoon violence, it's done as tastefully as one can create cartoon zombies with guns, plants with guns, zombie eating plants, and the rest of the cast of this game.

The game is an addictive and fun game! The game gives "bonuses" in a point structure to encourage players to use their points to unlock "cards" which have special abilities, player outfits, and more. During the game, the player is given leveling goals to which they must do certain objectives in order to level up. These goals are things like "Score 25 hits with your main weapon", "Destroy three Peashooters from a higher position", and many more. These goals encourage a simple reward system to unlock special abilities and skills to further game play and keep the player involved.

While the majority of the game is "third person" or the perspective of a camera following the player, there is also a "Boss Mode" which allows one player on each team to be the strategic support lead for the team. If you choose this, you will see the map in an overhead 2D view and be able to provide supply and airstrikes on your chosen locations at key times in the game. A good boss can turn the tide of the game, but this option is not for everyone and the gameplay feels very different than the "shoot 'em up" this game is at heart.
If you're an adult/teen and have played Team Fortress 2, Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, and other games like these you will love this.

Lots of young kids are playing this game too...

FOR PARENTS: It's important to realize that the microphone current defaults to "ON" when you play online, and ALL games are online. With this, not all players are children!

For those complaining about the specs, I agree they are a bit high especially for a cartoon type game. But for any PC game you should always check the specs unless you have a high end computer. That said, I have a computer that is 7 years old that runs it fine and a 3 year old laptop that runs it fine.

My kids have been waiting for this game since they heard about it last year. I didn't buy the xbox 360 version because there was no split screen and their main interest is playing together. So we waited 5 months and I got multiple copies of the game. According to them it was worth the wait. They love all the familiar characters and their abilities which are very similar to PvZ but adapted to a shooter. The game is easy to jump into and does not require a high skill level on normal modes. There is a lot of depth to the game though. You can level up your characters, gain new abilities and there are lots of different game types.

My main gripe with this game is that it is only online multiplayer. This type of game which geared towards kids needs an off line mode, story mode, and local co op. I knew all of this before purchase, but I still think it was a major mistake on EA's part.

Purchased for my 11 yr old. I had to open an origins.com account first and then log in to my origins account. Go to drop down menu under ORIGIN and hit "redeem product code"

A little "laggy" and some bugs. We had to restart the game a few times when connecting timed out and again when sound glitched. Running better on day two.

Been waiting for this game to come out on pc since e3 last year. The game runs great, tons of customization. For those gave low ratings, read the requirements before u buy. Not the games fault.

There isn't a way to play with my friends! The only way to play multiplayer is to "search" for a game and this dumps you and your friends in different lobbies and there is no practical way to get into the same game. You MIGHT get lucky and have an invitee slip into a random available slot, but if there is no slot, or it gets filled before your friend gets in you are out of luck. I have 5 friends I play my PC games with, we have regular local LAN parties, but this is a pretty obvious flaw for a modern game.

The idea of a silly shooter in the PvZ world sounds great, and the game almost works. But now that Popcap was purchased by EA, this game is ruined by decisions that smell like the corporate suits maximizing revenue instead of gamers maximizing fun. The original PvZ was a classic: funny, addictive and clever gameplay that was perfectly paced. PvZ 2 was classic EA - pull the fun out and make every step as painful as possible and push microtransactions, and this sadly is also flawed similarly. PvZ:GW still can be fun, but until a lot of grinding is done (or a lot of in game purchases) new players are at large disadvantages to those who have unlocked and upgraded their units.

So now for the good...

As a basic shooter, it has promise and works for a bit - a bit sillier than the big kid shooters + no blood + obviously not real, so the younger kids can play. The plants and zombies are pretty different and entertaining, and there is some of the charms of the original PvZ. There are 4 classes in each team, with each class now having several variants. The variants aren't that differently mostly, but add a bit of flavor and are more fun than the standard characters. Instead of a plain pea shooter, you can be one that shoots fireballs or iceballs or plasma balls or etc. Some work better than others, and will affect how you play. You can also choose to be either Crazy Dave or the Zomboss blimp as part of boss mode. It is kind of cute, and at times you have fun as the gameplay is usually decent.

So that is the good, now for the bad...

You only start off with the basic plants and zombies, do not have their advanced moves, and no upgrades for them so they will do a lot less damage and reload slower and be easier to kill.
