Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare is a third person shooter pitting (you guessed it) plants against zombies in different combat modes, from a team deathmatch to a domination game type variant. Each side consists of 4 different classes.
Plants get: Chomper a melee class that can burrow underground and is perfect for stealth, Peashooter the assault class who can gain extra jump and speed ability to get up high and take out the zombies below, Sunflower the "medic" who can heal other plants, while also using a sunbeam (think laser) to take out zombies while planted into the ground, and finally my favorite the cactus who snipes from afar while also laying down barriers in the form of walnuts.
Zombies have: foot soldier who is like the peashooter and is the assault class on the zombie team, the engineer who uses a grenade launcher type weapon while using a jackhammer to move around the map quickly and is protected from chompers while riding it who may try to swallow him whole, the scientist who uses a shotgun type weapon and is best suited for being up close to enemies, he can also heal other zombies and throw grenades, and finally the all star zombie who is the tank of the zombie team and uses a "gattling gun" type weapon while also charging forward toward plants to deal heavy damage and clear objectives.
After you get the feel of playing the different classes you can start to earn coins to buy booster packs to unlock variants to each class. A hot rod chomper who can move even faster after swallowing a zombie, a frozen peashooter who can slow down enemies, and a plumber (engineer) who uses a toilet bowl gun and deals even more damage.
The game includes Garden Ops (think horde mode), Welcome mat (beginner mode for people to get the feel of the game), Team Vanquish (team deathmatch), Vanquish Confirmed (kill an opponent and collect the fallen item to get score), Suburbination (domination), Gardens and Graveyards (Conquest and Rush modes from Battlefield), and Gnome Bomb (Obliteration mode from battlefield where you take a gnome to a spot to blow up an objective).
Popcap has been supporting this game since it released on the xbox one and xbox 360 with FREE dlc. More variants for characters, maps and game modes have been added to the game, with even more to come along the way. Just recently they launched a promotion with cheetos and if you buy a specially marked bag of chips you get chester cheetah costumes for characters and $10 off the game.
Finally I want to talk about my personal experience since I unlocked everything from the xbox one version and have now purchased this version. Please be aware you must have an internet connection to play this game. It says so on the cover, but I know some will take that for the multiplayer. This is crucial because some people just want to let their kids play and don't necessarily have the console hooked up to the internet connection. Parents will need to help people under the age of 13 set this game up to be able to play, please be aware of that due to the Origin account.
The game does look slightly better than the xbox one version (ps4 version is 1080p). Just from playing for 4-5 hours yesterday on release it just feels better. If you own this game already on the xbox one there is no need to get this game, unless you're like me and you have friends who are just beginning to play this great game for the first time and you want to unlock everything all over again.
This game was my favorite game I owned on my xbox one (even more than dead rising 3, killer instinct and titanfall) and I couldn't recommend it enough. For 40 bucks this game will keep you entertained and since Popcap will keep supporting it for free, there is even more to come.
