Works for me, and can be messy,

I've used the powder version of this product several times and it has worked very well for me so far, and I have very heavy deer pressure in my many garden beds. As in, I probably lost 50% of my ornamentals before I remembered that I bought and used this product to excellent effect last year. The powder version is messy to mix & strain, and you want to use it within a day or two (can be kept longer but may then need thinning), and you definitely want to keep it in an airtight container due to the smell. Both smell and appearance disappear within a couple of days of application (do not apply just before guests come). While it is purported to last for quite a long time (up to 3 months), they do say that you need to reapply to new growth and it can't fairly be said it doesn't work if you don't touch up new growth sometimes. You must apply it at deer nose height (~3 feet tall) and anywhere else they can reach for best results. Be warned that it doesn't "generalize" to nearby plants and only seems to work on the ones you actually spray. Apparently any deer-repellent product works better if you can start spraying before the deer show up on your property, and may benefit from being applied more heavily if the deer are already accustomed to your buffet. Customer service was excellent when I called recently (a real human, right away, with knowledge! Imagine!) So it can be messy and is somewhat expensive. Compared to similar products, it's effectiveness and duration bring down the comparative cost considerably; for example Liquid Fence was highly touted to me, but a per-use comparison seemed to favor Plantskydd. If you want to grow the plants deer love, these are trade-offs you have to consider.

Messy, smelly, and it didn't work,

I had high hopes for this after reading reviews on gardening web-sites but it didn't work for me and I switched to another pepper-based product which I found at my local Lowe's. This is EXTREMELY messy to mix and does have a peculiar odor. If you make the mistake, as I did, of storing it indoors, your house will smell like something died in short order. These would have been minor hiccups if it had worked but the rabbits continued to feast on my asters, cones, lythrum, etc.

This product proved messy and ineffective. The deer ate my hostas within a week of applying this product.
