Product Description

From the Manufacturer

It's like magic, but you don't need to be a magician to get it to work. The PlasmaCar is a mechanical marvel that makes use of that most inexhaustible of energy sources, kid-power, by harnessing the natural forces of inertia, centrifugal force, gravity, and friction. It's so easy to operate; all it needs is a driver and a smooth, flat surface. The PlasmaCar is adult-friendly, too. For starters, it doesn't require an expensive power source that needs constant replacement. No batteries, no power-cells, no liquid fuel-just the occasional cookie or two. It's quiet too-the only sound you'll hear is the sound of its wheels. It provides kids with plenty of exercise, more so than most toys. And the PlasmaCar is engineered to be absolutely safe when used appropriately. It's been extensively tested, and meets or exceeds all significant international safety standards.¿ Fully Assembled: 31" x¿ 14" x 16"¿¿¿¿ 8.15 lbs

I was very excited to purchase the plasma car for my kids 9 and 6, for Christmas.  We have hardwood floors throughout, and my 6 year old and my toddler nieces love to ride around on their big wheel tricycles during winter months, but my 9 yr old is always left out.  I read the reviews about the plasma cars and how it can hold up to 200 lbs.  Some reviews were saying that parents were even enjoying themselves, riding around during family get- togethers.   So I thought, wouldn't it be nice for my 9 yr old to still be able to ride around with her younger sister and cousins.  I put the first one together and tested it out.  It worked, but it was very slow.....I'm 135 lbs;  my daughter is 85 lbs, but I can't imagine it would be a whole lot faster, if she were on it.  It was just OK.
So I researched a little and learned that I could replace the plastic wheels with polyurethane wheels.  Imagine rollerblades with plastic wheels vs. rollerblades with polyurethane wheels and you'll understand the amount of difference the latter makes!   I couldn't find replacement wheels online so I went to sports authority and they showed me rollerblade wheels that fit perfectly.  I got the 80/82a size rollerblade wheels.  (make sure the ones you get come with the bearings)  All you need is a racket wrench and replacing the front wheels takes less then a minute.  Super easy!   I tried it out with the polyurethane wheels in front and kept the plastic wheels in the back.  Very smooth and fast. I felt like a kid again zipping around, making sharp turns- it became AWESOME!   I even sat my 1 year old on my lap and we rode around for 20 minutes because he was having so much fun!  I then proceeded to try and change the back wheels... Thats where the problem came in.

CONSTRUCTION

This is a unibody plastic construction. The wheels and steering wheel are also hard plastic. The foot rests and seat are contoured to prevent slipping. This ride is light enough for a child to pick up and put away. If you have more than one child, you really need one for each child plus an extra - for adults, like me. I am 190 lbs and I move rather easily on smooth surfaces.

OPERATION

The operator turns the steering wheel to propel the vehicle forward. Wider turns give more momentum for speed than smaller turns of the wheel. The wheels are smooth so the optimal surface is a floor made of linoleum or smooth concrete. A driveway or street impart a lot of friction and are not an optimal surface for mobility. Carpet has too much drag.

Since this has no form of self propulsion or engine, beyond kid power, it is quiet - with the exception of your child screaming with fun.

In the age of video games and excessive television for entertainment, this is a great outlet for getting kids to use their energy. Ideally, I would say this toy is suitable for kids ages 5 through 12.

CONCLUSION

This is a great toy that is fun, durable and not terribly expensive.

Two thumbs up!

I bought a plasma car for each of my boys, (ages 6 and 4). They enjoyed them for about an hour. I really thought they would be easier to propel than they are. If you are on any bit of incline it is almost impossible to make the car go without using your feet on the ground. It is fun to find a small hill and coast down, but coming back up is a pain. I have even tried to find really flat pavement and still you are at times practically not moving.

This is our third "scooter" and we love them. Great for kids and adults. Worth every penny and very durable (except when run over by the car!!). Our 3 and 5 yr-olds love them and we anticipate many years of fun with them.

We bought this riding toy years ago when my daughter was three. It ended up being more for me than for her... she rode her tricycle while I rode this up and down the sidewalk (I'm her Mom...35 yr. old). It's weight limit is upwards of 150 lbs. and we've had great fun with it for over 4 years. The front wheel broke off within 2 weeks of owning it, but it has no effect on the way it works. Now my 3 year old son whirrrs down the driveway on it. It's by far the favorite of the neighborhood.

This toy is my favorite thing that we've bought for our two-year old. (He kind of likes it too!) He loves scooting around on it, altho he hasn't completely figured it out yet. He prefers it over his little tricycle, I think since it's closer to the ground and easier to control. Works great on hard indoor surfaces, but not so great on lumpy uneven concrete outdoors.
