I was impressed with Kraak & Smaak when I recently saw them on US TV - but their touring band and their recording band are not the same. The female singer who was so good on TV is not on the record at all. Instead we have the two guys singing in fairly routine hip-hop/dance groove style. It's not bad - but it's not what I wanted. To the marketplace with you! I hope a CD with the female singer will be recorded - that would be a keeper.

Truth time. The whole album is kind of "eh".
Not bad. But not exactly great either. So why did I give this album 5 stars? Two words: 1) Squeeze 2) Me Here's what typically does it for me. I enjoy a song that has a definitive hip-hop structure, a good vibe, and is laced with funky beats. This song has all of that, with the addition of some of the best usage of horn-step breaks I've ever heard. That single song is worth buying the whole album. The rest of the album is still OK. Again, it's not terrible it just gets lost because when you hear a jam like Squeeze Me... and every other track becomes superfluous. If you do something right for yourself today - go ahead and get yourself some "Squeeze Me". |
