5.0 out of 5 stars HEY SOMETHING'S WRONG.
Training for Utopia is easily one of the best metalcore/chaos-core group of all time. Made up of members of Focal Point and these guys would move on to be the nu-metal sensation Demon Hunter. Training For Utopia are at once alarmingly bittersweet, remarkably romantic and mournfully tragic, yet often tongue-in-cheek. Their songs cut a path of...

3.0 out of 5 stars problem is, they were before their time
TFU has a different sound all together. Alot of people say they have no talent, well I can think of plenty of bands that have less talent and make millions of dollars. I personally believe that they were in fact ahead of the hardcore music scene. Just look at the band The Dillenger Escape Plan. Who's chaotic style of music is strongly reminisent of TFU's. Talent can be...

Their songs cut a path of brutal-honesty-disguised-as-playful-savvy not seen since the glory days of Nation Of Ulysses. Their new album sees them experimenting with loops, samples and trance-inducing effect trickery that blends into a somber beauty. They are basically a mix between Focal Point, Slipknot, NIN, and Dillinger Escape Plan. They are tight. You must buy this if you are anyway interested in hard music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Boom!, November 27, 1999

I got this album at one of their concerts at the Chain Reaction. These guys have a special talent that was placed into this album. This album has a very heavy, powerful, mind bashing quality to it. I went nuts at the concert, and I go nuts when I listen to this album.

I wouldn't bother calling this hardcore, this cd is chaos-core! From the opening experimental track, this CD sets up an assault on your ears, pummeling your senses with riff after riff of sweeping guitar lines which are unlike anything i've ever heard. It took me a solid week to even start liking this CD but once i had absorbed it thouroughly i was hooked. That was about a year and a half ago and i still often pop it in and enjoy. Any heavy music fan should buy this. The world weeps together as this band parts their ways, but good luck to Don and Ryan on their new work together.

5 stars! Excellent!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Hardcore Album of All Time, June 5, 2003
This review is from: Plastic Soul Impalement (Audio CD)
Christian or Secular... it doesn't matter! The lyrics are personal, and the vocals truly reflect emotion (which is rare for hardcore... be honest... you know it is). This album took me almost a year to understand. I had originally believed that I had thrown away my money on it. I didn't understand the complexity of everything. These men may not even have known how to "play" their instruments, but they made sounds come out that no one has been able to since, or probably will again. Out of this chaos comes melody, and only through understanding that can one enjoy the album. This is a classic, and belongs in your collection just like Living Sacrifice's "The Hammering Process." The only problem with this album is that, once you understand it, no other band comes close, and most future CD's you buy will be somewhat of a let down because your standerds improve from listening to this album. In short BUY IT! You won't be sorry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, just awesome, April 29, 2003

I heard about this band from finding out about Don and Ryan's new band, Demon Hunter.

I got the DH CD when it came out and then decided that I'd ask for the CDs for Christmas. I got em and I love them, PSI takes some getting used to and I find it to be thought provoking. Especially the track Single Handed Attempt at Revolution, no political correctness, just pointing out what's wrong. Oh well, it still kicks hard, hard enough for me who happens to be sick with modern music.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is Awesome!, March 1, 2003
This review is from: Plastic Soul Impalement (Audio CD)
I'm giving this cd a 5. I love metal and hardcore music, and out of all the cd's I've listened to I think this cd has more of a sound that I'm looking for than most cd's I listen to just because it never seems to calm down.

The first few times I listened to it I thought it was kind of odd but I immediately grew on it. It has a straight to the point sound. I recommend this to anyone who wants an original band who still carries a heavy sound in their library of music.

4.0 out of 5 stars psychotic, November 29, 1999

This review is from: Plastic Soul Impalement (Audio CD)
This record is insane, excellent, desperate sounding vocals, very dirty, thrashy guitars, meaty bass, and pulsing, relentless drums. the vocals are dark and emotional, my only comlaint is that the drums are horribly mixed. the best track is: "single handed attempt at revolution"
