Jota Quest is one of the more interesting popular rock bands from Brazil, all because of their open-minded and evolving approach to making music. This record has some of the same Funk and R&B infused tracks that we've come to love from Jota, in particular "Tudo me faz lembrar voce" which is on the soundtrack to a popular movie in Brazil now (Muita calma nessa hora), is classic 'quest with an infectious hook and bass line. "Laptop" has the classic funky bass playing that PJ is known for. They are definitely writing more straight Rock tracks nowadays, and I have to say are getting much better at it! "O Grito" is a haunting and sonicly deep track with some hints of U2 and lyrics equally as reminiscent of Bono and the boys, asking some fundamental questions about life. They even wrote some stuff in English! "So Special" and "Nobody's Watching" are a couple of funky tracks with the hooks written in English. "Hot to Go" is a really fun + funky duet, written bi-lingually and a second singer taking care of the English parts.
All in all I would say this is well worth the money, and it is a much better album than "Ate Onde Vai" I would highly recommend it to anyone, although I would suggest the live albums to the new listener, if you really want to get to know this band. |
