Platform crutches were suggested since my time frame on low weight bearing was going to be long. Pro's: easy on under arms, helps hand stress from regular crutches. Cons: when you strap in the Platform it is not practical to reach for items off grocery store shelves, work around the kitchen, etc. You have to unstrap to use your hands. However, if you are needing to walk into buildings, hallways or get from one area form another with no need to stop and use your hands then they are most helpful. An improvement would be to modify with an "easy in easy out" arm snap in device to make the crutches more practical

I needed this type of crutch when I had a wrist that was healing from being fractured, but also needed crutches due to foot surgery. I was concerned that I was going to have to postpone my foot surgery, which I didn't want to do. This crutch did the trick!. I was able to use it to weight my elbow instead of my healing wrist, which was still in a brace. I used a regular crutch on the other side. It was a bit tricky to maneuver both crutches at the same time, but I got pretty good at it. I was actually more stable on the platform crutch than a regular under the arm crutch which would slide out from under me in the snow. The platform crutch is very stable.
