2.0 out of 5 stars Bottom line..get KISS SINGLE(S) and ALICE DEEJAY.
YEAH..uh..well...what can I say! The album is okay. KISS is the typical college bar dance tune(imagine some loud cantina with lots of booze.) Much like BOOM BOOM BOOM on the last album. Cheekah Bow Bow sounds too much like "We Like to Party" on the last album, the computer guy voice is cool and different. EXCELLENT! 48 Hours the SAME EXACT SONG on Alice...

Who cares if there is only 10 songs, to all those people who said that, at least they have a cd with have sold over 2 million copies. So in short i recommend this cd to anyone whos likes good music.

EXCELLENT! 48 Hours the SAME EXACT SONG on Alice Deejay's album called "EVERYTHING BEGINS WITH AN E". NO CREATIVITY. PLAY the tracks from the albums and you will know what I am talking about! I started dyin' laughin'! I was like "OH UH UH..no they DIDN"T!" Same EXACT bass lines notes but the melody is different and more upbeat here. (The DJ's who produced both albums are behind this ordeal.) OPUS 3 IN D# plays with your senses and is an EXCELLENT DANCE MIX. It sounds a bit like "WHO NEEDS GUITARS ANYWAYS"(again Alice Deejay) It is surreal and earthly. Track 2 is like some "AQUA" song with lyrics about driving somewhere unimportant and doing something stupid! This is definately a album filler! But wouldn't dance to it! HAHAHAHA and Oh and tracks 7 & 9 sound like music tracks for some 80's teen love flicks (i.e. Sixteen Candles/Pretty In Pink.) Too corny! They try to get serious. How can you with a group called Vengaboys?....PUHLEEZE! The bottom line is this get..the singles "KISS"(there are two singles) and ALICE DEEJAY album and you have VENGABOYS for the year. With the KISS single, you get the VIDEO on it. You won't miss a thing. Trust me.

1.0 out of 5 stars The worst CD I've ever wasted my money on!, May 20, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Platinum Album (Audio CD)
Vengaboys? Hmmm, once they were known as a dance act but Vengaboys have tried to change their image so badly that it now seems a bit of a joke as dance music. I used to like them, I liked "The Party Album" and all their singles until the horrid "Shala Lala" was released. After that, I should have just given up any hope for the Vengaboys, but stupidly I went and bought this terrible album and now sits permanently on my shelf never played. Ever! "Kiss" is a nice song, but the single for it's available and all the other songs are just ABSOLUTELY AWFUL. They're not catchy, they're slow, they're extremely irritating and impossible to dance to. A pity, because Vengaboys originally produced tracks like "Up & Down" which were very good and this is totally different. Don't buy this CD, it just isn't worth it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Competent, acceptable, decent, little more, May 1, 2000

The Vengaboys have pulled off a tricky feat by releasing an album that is overall better than their last one, yet less memorable. Essentially, the Party album had a trilogy of redundant yet nonetheless fantastic songs in Up and Down, We Like To Party and Boom Boom Boom Boom that dominated the dance floors around the world, some weaker contenders that the more loyal regions of the world (like the Netherlands, and apparently, Japan) accepted, and some boring, faceless instrumentals that droned on ad nauseum without a peep from anyone. This time around, a lot of fat (i.e. instrumentals) is trimmed, and the lows are thankfully higher, but unfortunately the highs are a lot lower. Instead of an album with 3 A+ songs, 2 Bs and a bunch of Ds you get something like 4 B+s, 4Bs and 2 B-s. I can actually sit through the entire album when I'm in the mood for fluffy beats (kind of like Lou Bega's album), but I wouldn't listen to any of the tracks during an intense workout to motivate me like I did with the 3 songs I mentioned from the last album. Songs like Sha lala lala, Kiss, Cheekah Bow Wow (I like the retro synthesizer sound - it sounds like a rehash of an old 80s song called High Energy), and Skinnydippin are kinda neat, but what can I say, they're not phenomenal. Oh well, the Vengaboys will go on, thanks to the European and Asian masses who are less critical than I, with more affinity for the often cheesy Venga-aura. After all, there must be someone out there encouraging the two guys to dress up like Neo-Village People.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant stuff, but where did they go?, March 17, 2003
This review is from: Platinum Album (Audio CD)
When you hear the Vengaboys, you immediately think 'Uh oh are they releasing another single?'. But in reality, the Vengaboys are not annoying or stupid, just a band with a completely addictive funky album.
I like the Vengaboys, but Kim seemed to be the only one that ever sung! My favourite member was Denise, and she never did any singing! ARGH! But this is a good album, and Kim does have a good voice. Standout tracks are:

1. Shalala Lala
You just totally can't get the chorus of this song out of your head! You listen to it once and it's stuck there permanently. But that's a good thing cuz this song is groovy catchy and has a very cute video!
2. Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)
Another catchy as hell song. The chorus to this song will get stuck in your head, only to be replaced by "Shalala Lala" next time you listen to it! But you'll be singing along to this song, and dancing in no time!
4. Uncle John From Jamaica
God I cannot spell Jamaica! Anyway, this is another song with an irritatingly catchy chorus. The verses are pretty addictive too!
8. Skinnydippin'
I laughed the first time I listened to this song. It's so cute! It has cool verses and a cool chorus. You'll want to listen to it over and over.
9. Forever As One
My favourite. It's a gorgeous ballad that shows Kim can really sing. I cried the first time I listened to it. It was going to be a future single, and they definitely should have released it.

Favourite songs in order:

1. Forever As One
2. Uncle John From Jamaica
3. Shalala Lala
4. Skinnydippin'
5. Kiss (When The Sun Don't Shine)

Overall, just a happy, funky party album that would get anyone who likes dance music up on their feet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Let's party!, October 12, 2002

I was really dissapointed by their first album. This one is a lot better because you don't feel like hearing the same song over and over again. There are only a few Instrumentaltracks, lots of dancetunes and even a ballad. The lyrics aren't meaningful but this is not necessary for a great party-CD.
Shalala lala: This song is made for a Apres-ski party. But I swear that people in Austria don't look like the girls in the video!
24/7 in my 911: Great partysong. Reminds me of "Boom boom boom boom"
Kiss: The first single. A typical Vengaboyssong
Uncle John from Jamaica: Another great Partysong for having a beachparty
Cheekah bow bow: The computervoice and the lyrics are funny when you hear it for the first time. But it starts getting on your neryes very fast
48 hours: There are no vocals on this track. It's nice
Your place or mine: This song is so romantic: But it's not a ballad. Still for dancing.
Skinnydippin: One of my favourites although I don't know what "Skinnydippin" is supposed to mean
Forever as one: That's so beautiful. A ballad that shows us that Kim (the leadsinger) has a good voice. I just don't understand why they didn't put it on the end of the album. So it's somewhere stuck in between two dancefloorsongs
Opus 3 in D#: No vocals and very very long.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun pop music, February 1, 2002

I first heard a Vengaboys song at a Seattle Sonics basketball game. Of course I had no idea who the group was, and it took some searching, and listening to internet radio to discover the group.

I've bought this album and the party album, both are very catchy. If you like Ace of Base, or Aqua, this group is for you.

The platinum Album has a Video CD included that has a couple of their music video's. It is well worth it!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, Better Than The First, February 8, 2001

Okay the Platinum Album is by far better than the Party Album. Songs like Kiss(When The Sun Don't Shine), 24/7 in my 911, Cheeka Bow Wow(That Computer Song), Skinny Dippin, are great to sing and dance to and just have a great time. Shala Lalala is a great pop song. Can't really say the same for Uncle John From Jamaica(the chrous is mainly the worst thing about the song). Forever As One has to be one of the most emotional ballads I ever heard. It's simply great. The rest of the tracks are good but strictly for a party. Unlike the firstt album, the Platinum Album boots better developed songs. Wich is great. Its just to bad they didn't release the album in the States.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheesy Pop At Its Best, December 14, 2000

Vengaboys have managed to define the art of cheesy pop. The Platinum album is the Vengaboys second album and it is filled once again with cheesy pop at its best. Containing the Uk hits Sha La La La, Kiss When The Sun Dont Shine, Uncle John From Jamacia and The Computer Song. This album isnt as instantly catching aas the first one but it is still worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Change of heart!, November 13, 2000

afcrazygenie@yahoo.com (Boston, Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews

After listening to the first album, my mentality was that these were pretty cool artists, but not the best that there is. After purchasing this album while I was in England, it was then that I realised that these people were FANTASTIC! If you were skeptic about the first album, this album will definitely change your mind. The songs are more mature and they're more fun to listen to. "Chekkah Bow Bow (The Computer Song)" is hilarious. You have to pay attention to the lyrics, but it's really funny when you realise what they're saying. "24/7 in my 911" is a definite party song. The beat is really great and when the stereo is pumped up...need I say more? It also features their hits "Shalala Lala", "Kiss (When the Sun Don't Shine)", and Uncle John From Jamaica". It's far better than "The Party Album" cause this is THE Party Album!
