4.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Effort
This CD includes several new tracks from a few favorite artists.

A few major points of the album:

1. My Only Wish (This Year) - Britney Spears- Though I'm not a huge Britney fan anymore, I think this shows her vocal ability very nicely. She doesn't sound like an amplifier is singing for her and you can appreciate her voice.

4. I Don't Wanna Spend One More...

3.0 out of 5 stars Forgettable Pop Junk... but Dido saves it.
Dave Mathews and Dido are the only things this collection of lowest common denominator songs has going for it. None of the songs are really horrible... just boring except Dido's Christmas Day. I just listened to a friends copy, and thankfully it kept me from buying it. I went instead with Christmas Songs: A Nettwerk Christmas (a far superior compilation that also includes...

4. I Don't Wanna Spend One More Christmas Without You - *NSync: I had high hopes for this song, but was very disappointed. They all sound so whiny, it's unbearable. It's a shame, it could have been a very nice song.

5. Silent Night (Noche De Paz) - Christina Aguilera: By far my favorite of the album. Her voice is so full, powerful and beautiful in this one. She starts by singing the English version of the carol, then transfers to Spanish, then reverts back to English again before the song is over. Just incredible.

8. Christmas Song - Matthews, Dave: I was really surprised and impressed by this song. It's written just perfectly in accordance to Dave's usual style and has so much meaning. Really touching.

9. Christmas Day - Dido: The (very close) second best of the album. It sounds a bit like "Thank You," but has such a sorrowful message. If you want to hear a good new Christmas carol, listen to this one.

10. Merry XMas Everybody - Steps: This is by the British sensation pop group the Steps. It's such a happy, poppy song, you can't help loving it!

11. Christmas Time - Backstreet Boys: I love this song. It's so beautiful and just nice for sitting around and looking at the tree, or watching snow fall. Really sweet.

World Christmas: R. Kelly: I didn't think I'd like this song, but it turned out to be one of my favorites. It makes you so happy and helps you put things into perspective about the holidays.

Hope I helped!

4.0 out of 5 stars Everyone Needs This CD To Get Them In The Mood, October 29, 2004
By
This review is from: Platinum Christmas (Audio CD)
I baught this cd years ago when it first came out, around 2000.
The reason I baught it was for Britney Spears' "My Only Wish [This Year]". Even if you don't like Britney, you will love this song.
All the songs on this CD are good, you will not be dissapointed. I start listing to this CD in October and will listen to it all the way through until January. I gave this a 4 & not a 5 because I think instead of like TLC's song or Dido's song, I would rather hear like Kylie Minogue, or Kelly Clarkson sing a Christmas song, or even put a little Stacie Orrico on there, because those 2 songs don't please me at all.
So if you are debating on whether to buy this or not, I would have to say BUY IT!
I put track 1 on repeat the whole time i'm wrapping Christmas presents, you'll never get sick of it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A really great collaboration of Christmas songs, March 25, 2001

This is an awesome CD. It includes really great songs by great artists. My favorite song on the CD is Monica's "My Grown Up Christmas List." This song is so beautiful...it kinda' makes you think about the true meaning of Christmas. Her beautiful voice adds to the perfection of this song. Dave Matthews' Song is also really, really good. But what else would you expect from them? Dido's song is also worth listening too...Joe's and Whitney Houstons' are nice songs that you'd want to listen to only during Christmas...but are nonetheless very good (not very catchy though, but that's not really the point of a Christmas song). R. Kelly's song is amazing! It has these really cool "dongs" in the song that kinda' leave you in awe. And as for the mainstream pop artists (Britney, Christina, BSB, and N Sync), the only one worth listening to is Britney's "My Only Wish." She's so cute that you'll actually want to listen to it. Overall, the CD is really worth buying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great Christmas compilation..., November 21, 2001

Overall this is a great Christmas compilation...If you want some music to get you in the spirit of the season but don't want to limit yourself to one artist (Destiny's Child, Nsync, Christina etc) this is PERFECT for ya, cuz it has many differently done songs but they just about ALL have that christmas cheer/feel to them. This album does not disapoint if you like the artists. Each one does their thing; and contributes a good song. Standout tracks include:

My Only wish (This Year) - As much as I hate Britney, I'll be honest I love this song! Its sort of silly and the lyrics shouldn't be taken seriously; but this really does have a fun sound to it! A great song to set the CD off....

I don't Wanna Spend One More Christmas Without You - Nice song; even if you don't care for nsync that much its still good.

Silent Night (Noche De Paz) - Amazing. Christina sounds like an angel; and then gets into it and belts some notes out. It reminds me of O Holy Night from her Christmas album; which I also loved. This is one of my favorite tracks....

Christmas Day - If you like Dido I think you'd like this one....sort of a story....

Sleigh Ride - I think this remake itself is a classic. This TLC song has already been on quite a few other compilations; and I was happy to see it was on here. The album would not be complete without it.

Who Would Imagine A king - An underrated song on here. There is something about this that is so beautiful....Also a great example of Whitneys talent.

And the other tracks are great too, its just these are the ones i personally listen too. All in all, this album will no disapoint. If you think you're gonna like it, you probably will. This is also a very nice gift for family and friends! There is nothing like the gift of music ~

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as you'd think...., November 19, 2000

With all these billion-selling pop stars (except for Steps and Dido...what are they doing there?!), you would expect some really great music, but you never really find it here. Britney's song is kinda generic, Christina's bilingual Silent Night is good (but would have been better if it was on HER christmas CD insead of saving it for this), the Dave Matthews song has already been out for a couple years, and a lot of the others are just decent covers of traditional songs. In my opinon, the best songs on the CD are N'Sync's cheesy but sweet power ballad and R. Kelly's song....In the end, although it's not great, if you are a big fan of these artists you could do worst than get this CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars It's pretty good..., November 24, 2001

This review is from: Platinum Christmas (Audio CD)
I'm listening to the cd right now. I think Britneys song is actually pretty good!( and i hate britney!)monica's "grown up christmas list" is ok, i think it could've had better lyrics. Joe's "this christmas" is AWESOME. It's got a hip beat and cool lyrics! Normally i like n*sync, but let's face it this song STINX...HARD! ANd christina... no comment. Ok so I've been listening to santanas song for about a minute now, nobodys singing... 2 minutes... alright getting sick of music, moving on to... JArs of Clay. Wow these guys have great voices!!! The song has a good tempo too! dave matthews, no comment. Dido's song sounds kind of Junkie Monkey! Won't even talk about steps. AND... NO WAY, I can't BELIEVE I'm going to say this! the bsb's song ACTUALLY sounds good. THE rest of the songs are great! R.Kelly, Donell Jones(he's not exactly the best), tlc, Toni Braxton, Whitney Houston.

5.0 out of 5 stars A CHRISTMAS CD FOR YOU!, December 12, 2000

I really enjoyed this CD. It was well worth my money. My favorite song on there is by TLC (it is the best song ever to me for Christmas). Also I love the song by Steps. It is a song that is filled with fun and joy. It really gets you into the Christmas mood. DIDO song is also excellent. Britney Spears is like the first artist on the CD and the song she sings is so pretty. She really did a good job on that song. All the other artist were good too. I just had my favorites as you can see. Get the CD. I promise it is worth your money.
