Definitive Blancmange,
By
This review is from: Platinum Collection (Audio CD)
I used to own the previous "Best Of Blancmange" which is a good compilation, however this release exceeds it in terms of song selection and sound quality. This version is remastered and the sound is crisp and clear just like other titles from the same series. Unfortunately, Blancmange was one of those underrated new wave band of the 80s; yet it is still essential to people who love this kind of music from this era. The CD is packed with their best songs such as 'Living On The Ceiling", "Waves", "Blind Vision", "Don't Tell Me" and the 1984 remake of Abba's "The Day Before You Came" presented here in full lenght album version.
Last but not least, if you like Depeche Mode, Erasure, Duran Duran, Alphaville, A-ha... the list is long, you won't be disappointed with this CD. In addition, the price is so appealing! A must.

If you like stuff like Depeche Mode, Thompson Twins, Erasure, Naked Eyes, Human League and Talk Talk than you will enjoy this great forgotten band too. They obviously weren't the biggest hitmakers of the 80s, but their tunes are pretty infectous and have aged pretty darn well. This complilations has all of the singles and more. Admittingly, a few tracks are skippable, but considering how rare their studio albums are to find, I'm willing to bump my review of this album up to five stars! Plus, the re-mastering job will knock your socks off. Blancmange has never sounded better!

a forgotten 80's classic ...,

Blancmange is truly a forgotten classic from the 80's that epitomized the New Wave era. 'Lose Your Love' from the film Flight of the Navigator was one of the first songs I remember, and this is the only CD with that track. Some of the other hits are on here as well such as 'Living on the Ceiling' and several others.

ANOTHER rehashed compilation??? Just release their ALBUMS!!!,

This review is from: Platinum Collection (Audio CD)
This is at LEAST the 4th 'greatest hits' type CD released featuring Blancmange tracks. Most of these compilations are basically all the same tracks with a few alternate tracks here and there, yet, even if you get ALL these compilations, you STILL don't have every song from all three of their original albums. It is time for some record label to bite the bullet and rerelease Happy Family, Believe You Me, and Mange Tout with all the 12" mixes as bonus tracks!!!!

Found this group on WLIR in NY back in the 80's. "Love that it is" is a great song, danceable and fun, and there are two other tracks that I enjoyed. The rest of the album was pretty forgetable, songs that lacked the punch of their 2 hits. I hoped for some awesome music and got some weak filler songs. Next time more research B-4 purchasing!

The 80's never sounded so good!,

A definate must have for those who lived the 80's experience or simply love the 80's sound. Blancmange received more airplay in Europe during the 80's than North America and that left a lot of North Americans missing out on a great sound. This collection has all of the most sought after Blancmange hits and shouldn't be passed up.

Blancmange are: Neil Arthur, [vocalist] and Stephen
Luscombe, [instruments]. Both are English 1980's "synth-pop" advocates. They decided to call themselves after a medieval French 'pudding' [dessert] called 'Blanc mangier',a sweet gelatin - cornstarch mixture with almonds. From 1979-1987 they rode the alternative wave and were stablemates with Soft Cell, and Depeche Mode on the "Some Bizarre" pulpit of pop respectibility. This re-mastered compilation of drum machines and of course, analog syntheziers is excellent. Who would even think of selecting an Abba song to cover in their own creative style?? For me..I just can't enough..[sorry, Depeche Mode]. Consequently I beleive I shall purchase Mange Tout. Therefore I can have petit pois' before my blanc mangier. How romantic. Which of course might apply to our industrial friends from up north..Neil and Stephen. For the real deal check out Talk Talk, Visage, Men Without Hats, and China Crisis.

The title of my review pretty much sums up my opinion. Blancmange was truly one of the great British new wave bands of the early 1980s, and this is a great collection of their better-known songs for those that would like hearing different versions of them.

Has all the songs you might remember from Blancmange, the ones that really matter, and then some. Energetic '80's fun.
