4.0 out of 5 stars Could have left some songs off for others
This is a very thorough and definitive collection of Gary Moore's work. It's clever to space the songs out to separate CDs according to their genre. His overall career is represented well here, but it does leave off some favorites such as the aforementioned Led Clones, the entire Scars album, and most of the Dark Days in Paradise album. Overall, it is a great steal (I got...

3.0 out of 5 stars Two out of three ain't bad - Not as impressed with Gary Moore The Rocker here
I admit up front, although I've been familiar with several Gary Moore songs on the radio and with Thin Lizzy over the years, I am not well-listened to his solo output. That's why I decided to just take the plunge and purchase this 3 CD collection to get a wide breadth of what he's done with up-to-date remastering. I also purchased the remastered "After Hours" CD with...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Tribute to the late Gary Moore, May 6, 2011

I have recently purchased this 3-CD collection of Awesome music by Gary Moore. Eventhough I already own many of his albums, I really wanted to have a large collection of his strongest material in an easily accessible format. The Platinum Collection is a quality compilation of Moore's music that spans many years. I really miss Gary Moore, but this terrific collection of his material makes me appreciate how talented he was. I am absolutely pleased with the Platinum Collection. If you decide to buy it for your own collection, you will not be disappointed. Rest in peace, Gary moore. Thanks for all the songs!

5.0 out of 5 stars ROCK OUT!, March 31, 2011

Though I had no memory of Mr. Moore, He was on a Fender Guitar 50th anniversary special and smoked every other player. I was so impressed that I purchased this album (3 CD'S). Buy this if you want to rock. I like to drive down the road and blast this to turn heads. This album works well with headphones also. I now know who Mr. Moore is.

I also purchased the remastered "After Hours" CD with bonus tracks.

What you get here is a pretty decent amount of songs, all on EMI-related labels, for the cost. Each of the discs has a theme. Disc 1 samples Gary Moore's studio rock side, Disk 2 samples his studio blues side and Disc 3 collects an assortment of live performances.

The sound quality of each disc is excellent, and I'd imagine they are re-mastered in the 21st century, but that is not for sure, since the liner notes shortchange any mention of that. That's not the only thing missing from the booklet; the roughly 7 page essay by Jorgen Holmstedt does a nice concise job of summing up his 30+ year career, but the booklet provides NO details about what year or what LP/CD each song comes from for quick reference. Some of these details can be extracted from the essay if you choose to take the time to thumb through it but is problematic for quick reference.

Now for the music itself. I do really enjoy the blues disc (2) and the live disc (3) but am not as impressed with Gary Moore the rocker on disc 1. I know he's a very talented guitarist with a long distinguished, if not under-appreciated ability. However, the songs on the first disc at times devolve into some 1980s hair-band banality. Was he listening to Randy Rhodes? There are times where I'd just rather hear the REAL 1980s hair band than hear someone mimicking it. Even Ozzy did better work than what is presented on this disc. Perhaps there are better songs to hear that arn't on this collection, but that's just a guess. The production on much of the first disc is thin in a 1980s hair-band way, and becomes boring after awhile. The songs on the disc do improve towards the end, of which I do like the last 5 or so songs.

The live rock songs on disc 3 are superior to the studio sides, in performance and overall excitement.

I will have to admit I had higher expectations for the song "Parsienne Walkways", a collabertion with Phil Lynott. I had never heard before it but found it to be kinda lame.

Oh well, opinions are just that. Overall, a good introduction to Gary Moore; likely the only collection most people will need. I really think blues fans will end up using the first disc as a coaster.
