Very few Reed fans would consider the title of CD to be appropriate. Besides the fact that Lou Reed is not your average platinum- or gold-selling artist, the selection does not include all that is considered his best tracks, even restricted as it is to his 1970s and 1980s ouevre. Sure, Walk On The Wild Side was his biggest hit and Satellite Of Love has seen many covers, but the rest is fairly obscure.

Vicious is a favorite from the legendary Transformer album, whilst Sally Can't Dance was a minor hit in the mid 1970s. Temporary Thing is a gripping rock song with an impressive build-up, and Coney Island Baby sees Reed in introspective mood. I Love You Suzanne with its buoyant rhythm and moving lyrics has always been a favorite of mine from his obscure 1980s period.

Those looking for a comprehensive compilation encompassing Reed's long career are advised to investigate the box set Between Thought And Expression: The Lou Reed Anthology or New York City Man: The Collection, with 31 tracks. This Platinum & Gold Collection is still however an enjoyable listen and a somewhat brief display of Reed's versatility.

the coolest of the cool rockers, lou reed let's it happen on every track. showing his unique yet diverse style, this is a great cd. good compilation.

Of course, 12 tracks and 49 minutes is a bit short in the cd era and for a Lou Reed compilation. But this compilation works anyway. The remastered sound is fist rate as it is the same than on the NYC Man compilation. The choice of tracks and the sequencing are cleaver. It's good to have Wild Child, Temporary Things, Shooting Star and The Gun on the cd. These tracks are realy good and aren't obvious choices like Walk On The Wild Side, Satellite of love and Coney Island Baby wich are on all Lou Reed compilations (and hopefuly also on this one). So, if you aren't looking for a complete compilation (impossible with Lou Reed), you may try this one.
