5.0 out of 5 stars Great Collection of Hits, November 30, 2003
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
Real McCoy was one of the biggest dance sensations in the mid-90's, along with La Bouche, Haddaway, Ace Of Base, and Amber. Now, finally, America is seeing the "Best Of" collection. Having already had greatest hits CDs in Japan and Europe this collection may seem a bit skimpy, but it's still great, and it's a pretty good deal as well! This collection features all of Real McCoy's biggest hits, as well as the smaller hits. Here's a review of each track:

* 01 Another Night (Radio Mix) (3:59) 10/10 - This track started it all for the Real McCoy! It topped both the US Club and Pop Charts! The Berman Bros later created a very similar song with Amber called "This Is Your Night".
* 02 Run Away (Single Version) (4:05) 10/10 - Similar in style to the first track, this song is another prime example of how awesome Real McCoy was! Again this song managed to top both the US Club and Pop charts.
* 03 Come And Get Your Love (Single Mix) 9/10 - An interesting cover of a song by Redbone. This song had a big impact on the US club charts but didn't manage to get very much success with the Pop charts.
* 04 Automatic Lover (Call For Love) (Single Version) 10/10 - Similar to both "Another Night" and "Run Away" this single had a slightly faster BPM and a slightly darker feel to it. This song was a major US club hit but barely registered on the Pop charts.
* 05 One More Time (Single Mix) (4:01) 10/10 - A great hit with a great infectious melody like the earlier hits. The song was a minor US club hit and was a minor Pop hit as well.
* 06 I Wanna Come (With You) (Original Radio Edit) (3:26) 8/10 - A little more boring than the average Real McCoy song. Sadly this song was neither a US club or pop hit.
* 07 (If You're Not In It For Love) I'm Outta Here (Radio Mix) (4:10) 10/10 - This version is much better (it's remixed by Xenomania) than the album version. This europop infectious song makes you forget all about Shania!
* 08 Tonight (Album Version) (3:52) 7/10 - Not quite as catchy or infectious as other songs on the album. This track is one of the more boring tracks on the collection.
* 09 Love And Devotion (Airplay Mix) (3:57) 7/10 - This track has a more laid back feeling to it when compared to the high energy tracks that came before it. It's still a decent song though.
* 10 Ooh Boy (Radio Edit) (3:07) 8/10 - Well, this song brings the album back to a more upbeat pace. But the song can only be classified as above average. It's notable that this song was a minor US club hit.
* 11 Sleeping With An Angel (Single Fade) (4:28) 9/10 - I know a lot of people don't seem to like this song because of it's lyrics. But I still happen to think this ballad has quite a bit of power behind it.
* 12 Operator (Album Version) (5:25) 10/10 - Full length mix of one of Real McCoy's smaller hits. This track has a haunting melody that will leave you wanting to come back for more!

So overall, you're getting all of Real McCoy's biggest hits. Even though most of them weren't really big hits in the US. However eight of the songs twelve tracks can be found on Real McCoy's debut album "Another Night" so this is mainly recommended for casual fans and hardcore fans who want this just for their collection. Since Real McCoy only released two albums you might just want to pick those albums up and get more songs. But whatever you do enjoy the sound of the Real McCoy!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great music but shoddy collection., August 30, 2004
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
This 12 track collection compiles selected tracks from Real McCoy's two albums 1995's "ANother Night" and 1997's "One More Time" and the result is a mixed bag. FIrst off I don't understand how they could really assemble a 'hits' or collection like this from just a mere two albums when there weren't enough singles to warrant this. Their first album was a smash hit and is still popular almost a decade later but their second album didn't come anywhere close to the success of the former. Now don't get me wrong, these are all great tracks and they are all classics in my book but even then, this is a poorly developed collection and the songs feel totally out of place. "Operator" is a great track but it is surely not the best closing track to any CD, compilation or proper studio-album. "Tonight" which is placed in the wrong track slot is the best closing track and it brilliantly closed out their "One More Time" album and their recording career on a high note. Not that this collection closes on a bad note by any means because "Operator" because it is a wonderful dance classic but the album feels like a cliffhanger. Overall, not a bad collection but they could really have done a much better job at assembling it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good But, Could Have Been Better., July 8, 2005

Ok I will be the first one to admit that I am a die hard Real Mccoy/MC SAR & The Real Mccoy fan and have been since their first album "On The Move" and this review might be a little biased but I will do my best to review this objectively. This album is basically a compilation of the groups greatest hits. No new material it's your basic greatest hits album, there's not much more I can say about that. The music however, speaks for itself. It's the same great eurodance music with beautiful vocals and amazing rapping that most of us know Real Mccoy for. These tracks are from the groups debut album under the name Real Mccoy,"Another Night" and their follow up "One More Time". Some reviewers have called Real Mccoy the "Milli Vanilli of Eurodance" but that is not quite accurate. Real Mccoy's public line up originally consisted of Olaf 'O-Jay' Jeglitza and Patricia 'Pasty' Peterson. While O-Jay did do the raps himself Patsy never did sing on the album "Another Night" it was a studio vocalist by the name of Karin Kasar and she did a wonderful job on the tracks but was never put into the forefront because of some Image issues, but that is nothing new it's been happening in the music biz for years. Vanessa Mason joined later and after Patsy left Lisa Cork joined for the second album which Vanessa and Lisa did sing on. That being said on with the review:

All of the songs on this album are very good, very likeable, and still very danceable considering that most of the songs on this album are at least 10 years old ('One More Time', 'I Wanna Come', 'I'm Outta Here' and 'Tonight' being the exceptions the were all released on the album 'One More Time' in 1997). Most people looking at this cd are probably familiar enough with the songs from 'Another Night' so I will skip the play-by-play on those songs. 'One More Time', 'I Wanna Come', 'I'm Outta Here' and 'Tonight' are great songs and deserved a lot more airplay than they got here in America. They all had the capabilities of being big hits, but the lack of decent promotion and radio airplay killed that. These tracks are down right fun and very danceable, it's Eurodance at it's best. My biggest problem is that there were many tracks from the 'One More Time' album that should have been on here instead of this virtually a carbon copy of 'Another Night' with added bonus tracks. 8 of the tracks on this album came from 'Another Night' so it kind of makes the album seem a little off-balanced. All in all it is a great album and I would recommend that fans of Real Mccoy pick it up, I just wish there were more tracks from 'One More Time' on it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beyond Stars, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
For those who can question the merit of a greatest hits collection or a collection of anything for that matter doesn't deserve an explanation nor the music to be in their belongings. The group known as the Real McCoy along with La Bouche and Fun Factory sybomlize an era of dance music that cannot, for technical reasons or otherwise, be reproduced. And for great reason. Some collections are deemed appropriate due to the fact that they simply came about at the right time and right place, muscially, for those who listened at the right time and place. Those who are confused as to why concerning this greatest hits alblum, well, was told at the dance club door that the club was filled.

5.0 out of 5 stars Automatically love this cd, June 29, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Platinum & Gold Collection (Audio CD)
This talented group really composed some exciting and fun songs of the 90's. I know that I may be dreaming but if only the group would get back together. I first heard of the group when I was around 14 and found them interesting back then. I heard a couple of their songs again when I was stationed in Japan and made a port stop in Australia. I finally committed to buying their greatest hits cd last year and I am happy to say that I did.

Here is my opinion on each of the songs:

Another Night 10/10 Definitely one of the classic songs that first got me interested in the group. This song is a fun europop song that makes it expressive on how the woman feels about her lover. I sensed a magical chemistry between the female and the male singer.

Run Away 9/10 An upbeat song that is very futuristic in my opinion and again I like the contrast of vocals between the singers.

Come and Get Your Love 8/10 You can picture that you are on the beach enjoying yourself with this song. I like the fun way that the vocals are combined with the beach and summer sounding music.

Automatic Lover 10/10 This is definitely one of my favorite songs on this cd. I love how the male singer sings the lyrics "get in touch with me" and how the female singer says in the song "I can't fight this feeling" and "I can't control myself". I found the male singers lyrics very sensual and the females lyrics very electrifying. This is one of the strongest songs on the cd.

One More Time 10/10 Another strong and great song on the cd. I thought that the upbeat music with the unique lyrics were combined together well. You can easily picture yourself at a club and/or skating rink with this song.

I Wanna Come 8/10 This song eventually grew on me and I liked the confidence that each of the singers conveyed in the song.

If Youre Not in it for love 7/10 A good dance version of Shania Twain's song. I like how the group makes it uniquely their own.

Tonight 7/10 An decent song that may not be the same as their other songs but I like how both singers are energetic in the song.

Love and Devotion 9/10 A beautiful upbeat song that expresses convincingly a couple's love for each other. The lyrics I really enjoy in the song are "you are the sunshine in my life" .

Ooh Boy 8/10 An interesting song about a female expressing her desire for the man but wants to make sure that despite his playboy past that she will be the one to share his love with him

Sleeping With An Angel 10/10 A really beautiful song that showed me a side to the male singer that I did not know existed and I like how harmoniously the female voices are blending in when they sing sleeping wth an angel I didn't know I could

Operator 10/10 A very futuristic and original song that makes a creative use of a robotic voice for "operator emergency"

If you would like some music to dance to and you definitely like dance, pop, and/or europop/eurodance then you will enjoy this cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have cd for the Dance addict..., October 23, 2003
By
"q1imitator" (Marquette, MI United States) - See all my reviews
Real McCoy is one of my favorite dance artists, so this may be a little biased. But this cd has it going on. It has all of their best hits, including Another Night, Run Away, Sleeping With an Angel to name a few. I cant honestly think of a bad song on this cd, even the ones I dont listen alot on it, are still awesome and favorites of mine.

For those of you who dont know who this great artist is, Real McCoy was a big dance group in the 90's. They hit it big with Another Night, a masterpeice of a song, and then followed up with another instant hit, Run Away. Automatic Lover was another big hit for them, and even the song Operator was big, even though it didnt make the charts. They have done remixes of such songs as Shania Twains "Im Outta Here". All in all, a fine group, with some great hits under their belt. Their music is still played today in alot of the big night clubs, and I am sure it will be that way for a time to come.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best, October 16, 2003
By
Robby (ASTORIA, NEW YORK USA) - See all my reviews
Well this is definately the best Real Mccoy compilation out their. It has all their hits and the songs are classic. Is it worth it if you have the albums , well i think so. I bought it only for the REMIX radio version of If You're Not In It For Love (I'm Outta Here). This version was only available on the singel and if you missed it you would never find it again. I was so happy to get that version of the song. It is better than the album version , it has a more techno american sound where the album version is more euro. Also it has a remix of Love And Devotion which is great. So I would get it just for those versions of the songs.
